Warm Home Discount and Switching
Hi
Does anyone know if I will miss out on the Warm Home discount if I switch suppliers? I'm currently with First Utility and they say the discount will be applied between Jan and March but what happens if I switch now to Eon? I do qualify for the Warm Home discount.
Thanks
Em

I went with EON on 17th October . Warm home discount has already been credited to my account.
Unless you are in the group that gets it automatically then the Power Companies only have a certain amount to distribute .
If you go to EON apply for it online as soon as you get your account number, usually within 2-5 days .0 -

Not all companies are in the Warm Home Scheme check before you move .0 -
Hi MarleyMoo,
If you're in the Core Group and expecting an automatic discount:
The company that supplied your electricity on 12 July 2014 is responsible for giving you the discount, even if you’re now with another supplier.
If you're in the Broader Group and need to apply:
If you’ve applied for the discount with First Utility you’ll get the Warm home discount from them provided they still supply you and you're eligible.
If you switch to us, it's likely you'll miss out because we'll be closing before the switch completes.
If you haven’t applied, you’ll need to apply for it whoever is your current supplier.
I hope this helps.

I'm sorry, but this advice is wrong.
On the First Utility website it says
"In order to receive your discount you must be a customer on supply at the time of payment by March 31 2015."
And it's not the only company making such a statement.
Scottish Power:
" Please note if you change supplier between applying for the ScottishPower Warm Home Discount Broader Group Rebate and the rebate being paid you will no longer be eligible for a rebate under the ScottishPower Warm Home Discount Scheme. "0 -
Hi redux,
It wasn't too clear, I've edited.
Sorry about that

Thank you.
I had looked at this the other day, on behalf of someone in the broader group.
She qualified with the current company and would presumably do so again. Looking at 2 other prospective suppliers, one had similar terms for the broader group but did say it's first come first served, while another had slightly different terms and she'd be unlikely to qualify.
So no change, just a mental note to look at this earlier for next winter, if the scheme still exists.0 -
I am in the core group of WHD recipients - does this mean I am lucky, or does it mean I am poor?
The payments to the broader group are, sfaik, entirely discretionary and I guess each energy company can impose whatever t&c's it chooses.
I have just received my winter heating allowance of £200 to add to my WHD of £140, and I daresay I will receive one or two cold weather payments during the coming winter.
But my finances are organised in such a way that I can pay all my bills with the pensions and benefits which arrive on a regular basis throughout the year. It is hard enough to to convert a 4-weekly income into a monthly figure. The occasional, non-guaranteed, annual payment is little more than extra beer money.0
