This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all
DGS was up just after 6, so an early start for a Sunday, it's light now so they will be gardening soon with hubby, we have carrots & beetroot that need pulling.
I made a batch of tomato chutney yesterday to use up the last of the green tomatoes,
I ordered some boots to wear, as I can't wear tights or trousers, my legs get cold if I just wear shoes with bare legs, both pairs arrived yesterday & fit well so I should be warmer this year.
The fish have been fed & the DGC want breakfast so I better feed them soon.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Now light, very wet underfoot, but still and the sky is quite clear. We had a very heavy downpour late yesterday afternoon, and then it continued raining on and off well into the evening.
DH and myself up enjoying first peaceful cuppas of the day.
Lunch yesterday was egg and bacon rolls. Dinner last night was spare ribs, pizza, jacket potatoes with beans and cheese and side salad, all eaten and enjoyed.
Yesterday didn’t quite go to plan. I took DS2 into town to visit the bank, and we needed to go to the SM aswell. We were just about to go into the SM when DS1 phoned to ask us to get some more bits from B&Q – luckily the SM I’d decided to use is on the same site as the SM so we got all the bits we needed before heading home. DH and DS1 had stayed at home emptied his bedroom and had started stripping the walls so they could re-decorate it, unfortunately lumps of plaster came off with the paper …………….. so now 2 walls need re-plastering – I will be trying to get hold of someone to come and do that. So they just cleaned up the mess and put everything back into his room (we’d emptied his bedroom into ours and DS2’s room, so at that point no-one had a bed they could sleep in!) The heating engineers should be coming out tomorrow, but I booked them to come out when I thought I was still going to be at home on sick leave, now I’m going back to work tomorrow, so DH is going to ask his dad if he will come and be at our house to let them in.
We’ve also seen a car for DS1, we hadn’t got a clue what to get him for his 18th and both DH and myself are very worried about him travelling to work in the winter early mornings, so wanted him on 4 wheels not on 2 – he was saving for his car from his wages anyway, but just wouldn’t have had enough money to buy the car and pay the insurance before the winter weather really sets in, so we’ve said we’ll purchase the car for him and the insurance and tax is his responsibility, he’s also going to sell his motorbike so he’ll get some money back from that. We just need now to sort all the paperwork etc out – I’ll be doing that over the next few days, we’re hoping that he can have his car on the road by his birthday – which would be so nice for him.
Lunch today will be roast pork, got a large piece so that will need to go in the oven at a reasonable time otherwise won’t be cooked properly. We’ll have roasties, mash, carrots, cauli/broc cheese, peas, Yorkshires and gravy with it. There will be some left, so will probably do cold pork with hot potatoes, pickles, coleslaw either tomorrow night or Tuesday night.
I will spend today getting organised ready for work tomorrow – uniform was all ironed and ready before we went on hols, because I was expecting to go straight back to work the day after we came home for hols, not be injured and on sick leave for 10 weeks! I’ll just organise the lunch and pack-ups etc, then take it steady for the rest of the day.
Have peaceful Sunday’s everyone x
Take care x
Keep safe and well x

Morning!
Warm hugs to all poorlies both human and four legged
I have can plan of action today, I've made a list room by room of tasks I want to complete.
Have worked both days and nights this week so no time to do anything but grab a nap.
House has suffered and I feel frustrated.
Also why is it when you have stuff to do big "kids" need to talk.
I've admitted defeat and put my rotary airer away.
Washing not too bad, though I'll admit I'm lousy at putting it all away and there are leaning towers of washing everywhere:o
Dinner today is Honey and soy pork steaks with new pots and veg.
Fancy some cake and custard for pud
Have a good day all!

Good Morning everyone, beautiful day down here with sunshine and blue skies. I spent last night on the sofa in the lounge as after all the fireworks had finished around 10 in the evening we went to bed to be jolted awake at 11.38 by some lunatic letting off massively loud bangers down on the main road through the village, Docky woke up and was scared witless, shaking so hard his little bones rattled. So up we got and he took so long to settle I sent He Who Knows back up and brought my duvet and pillows down. It was a long old night but poor Doc did eventually stop shaking and laid on the carpet beside me at which point I drifted. He was in his armchair when I woke up so I don't know how long complete recovery took. I can cope with the noise at a reasonable time, I don't want to stop folks from having fun but that time of night is criminal and I DO feel there should be a law to prosecute people so thoughtless as to disrupt the peace at almost midnight!!!
Don't have much planned for today and if I had, I'm in no fit satate to do it anyway. Will pootle and recover my equilibrium and look after my boys, Lyn xxx.0 -
Morning all,
welcome back LouLou. I remember you, though I'm not sure I remember you from when I was a lurker or a poster on the daily thread.
Nmlc, unfortunately I have had pretty much the same experience with the walls in my house. You go to strip the walls of paper only to find its only the paper that's keeping the plaster on. Theres only two rooms in my house that hasn't been replastered. The living room we got away with patching bits up when we decorated but our bedroom is definitely going to need doing when we decorate next. As it is, I'm just happy to keep painting the textured paper. I think the only solid walls have been the internal walls.
Bagpuss38 I admitted defeat last weekend when I got hubby to take the rotary line down for the winter. It will come out again late spring/early summer or as the weather changes.
Ive been up a while, the men are still sleeping soundly though the Girls have been out. Weather is bright and sunny though cold.
Need to go to the shopping centre later on. I'm hoping to pick up Moms Christmas present out of Debenhams whilst hubby is getting his stuff.
Hubby is doing one of his curries tonight. No cooking for me tonight.:T
Toying with the idea of going to a reunion again this year. Posting on a forum is enough for me but my school friend wants someone to go with. I think she has plans at crashing at my house again this year.
I will feel a bit mean if I don't go but i'll think about it.
Onwards and forwards,
Have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Morning all
Been raining here but sun is now coming out, for the bedding in the wm and will hang it out for a while.
Just me and little dog here, OH gone to the boot sale she is in her bed and I am having toast and marmite.
Vet was pleased with her progress she drained a bit from the lump on her neck and said that she thought it was were we were injecting her and she thinks it will go down, she has given her another lot of liver tablets and antibiotics and done a blood test for her diabetes, another £200 yesterday, total cost over the last week £1050 , I had saved a bit for my car tax and xmas so its all gone on her ! My sistercas fund is still intact so it will just be a slightly scaled down one this year ! I would rather have a well dog any day.
House is not too bad will have a quick clean through when OH gets back, so that he can help.
I think mum is coming for dinner later as she is going into hospital tomorrow to have her knee replaced, so a good meal is in order.
Mrs LW, littledog was always terrified of fireworks, but we have moved to a much more rural area and she has also gone a bit deaf in her old age, I do hope Doccy is ok x
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning all,
Hello Lou, nice to see you back. If you find any healthy alternatives to chocolate please let me know, as I too should not be having all the sugar.
I am so tired, goodness knows why. I just have not had the energy to do anything, not even post for the last few days. I will get up shortly and have some porridge and see if this helps.
Needless to say, I have not done anything remotely interesting to write about! I have made a start on the christmas shopping but ours too will be a simple affair which is how I prefer it. Books and wooden puzzles to solve for hubby, books and jigsaws for mum, that sort of thing.
OS today? Using up freezer stock for our dinner, washing to dry on hangers, all the usuals really. I will also try and think of a hobby I can do that is reasonably priced and can be done sitting down and that is not too taxing on the brain cells, any suggestions?
Take care all.

Peony40 Have you tried cardmaking, once you have a few basic bits its very easy to do andis a great sit-at-the table hobby. You can buy some odds and ends from Wilcos for a couple of quid and there are lots of things around that can be incorporated into cards I always save left over card from the previous year and cut out bits I fancy for 'headers' It really is quite a cheap hobby and have a look on the internet for ideas. You can print of lots of bits and embellishments, and once mounted
on plain card (use the thin card from the backs of cereal boxes for mounting with pritt stick glue)you have so many things you can use for decorations.A decent pair of scissors,a few odds and ends and you'd be suprised what you can make for very little Look on Yue tube for how to do it videos Honestly I haven't bought a birthday or Chistmas card for several years.
Welcome back loulou good to see you posting again :)I think you were pregnant with your second baby, and now he is being potty trainedtime flies so quickly doesn't it.
Good morning to everyone else.Well its dry here at the moment but not for long methinks.I had a lovely 'pottering day yesterday did absolutely no housework whatsoeverjust knitted and watched about 4 episodes of A History of Britain that I had recorded by Simon Sharma.I'm trying to catch up on some of the stuff that I have 'Tivo'ed'.Its a great gadget but so easy to think 'Oh that looks good I'll record it for later' then forget about it:)so yesterday was a very lazy day.
I am hoping to get my car back from my youngest DD today as its six weeks since my op. so I should be OK for driving ,fingers crossed anyway:) she can be a bit of a bossy boots at times
:)
I watched the Rememberance service last night and it always makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up I went to see it 10 years ago with my DD and it was the most moving thing I have ever seen.My nephew takes part every year as he is a vicar and the Bishop of Manchester is his boss (very nice chap as well)so I always keep a sharp look out for Hughie.
So sad to see all those brave young men and the one who are paying tribute to them.
Well today will be a bit of a bake-up day as my tins are running low on cake and biscuits. then its off to youngest DDs later this afternoon for dinner.Hope everyone has a great day what ever you are doing, enjoy
Cheers JackieO x0 -
Afternoon!
Slept late this morning as I read until late last night. Then I watched the Remembrance programme and am now dressed and more respectable. Watched the Royal Albert Hall one last night and had tears rolling down my eyes for a lot of the time. One of my uncles is buried in Minturno War Cemetery in Italy.
It's a lovely day here, can't believe how bad it was last week, only problem is that more rain is forecast for the next three weeks.
Had a real dropsy day yesterday - first I threw two bowls of yummy pea, mint and ham soup all over the kitchen. Think I missed the work surface and was in a hurry as they were hot. Cue me cleaning down the kitchen cupboards, work surfaces, hob and floor for ages. Then I saw that I was splattered head to foot in the stuff. Cue all clothes off and in the washing machine along with the cloths used to clean up.
THEN when I got into bed (after being rather more scared than I should have been by Dr Who) I dropped my hot cup of tea everywhere. On my cosy cashmere throw, on my clean jimjams and over the floor rug. Grrrr.... Got the 'dry clean only' throw in the machine, I've had it about 10 years and it was reduced at M&S - still got the red dot they used to use for reduced items. Machine is on wool/cool wash so finger crossed it doesn't shrink too much!
Came down this morning to see huge areas of green which I had missed so got the cloths back out and scrubbed them down again.
Now I'm playing it safe. Done internet banking. Sorted out problem with nPower (£125.00 goodwill gesture credit). Got my knitting out and will finish the book I'm reading.
Got M&S deal food to have for lunch/tea.
Good to read about dogs getting better, and sad for the scared one. Fireworks are a real problem and perhaps should be more regulated. There's so much EU do which interferes you'd think they'd look at fireworks.
Hey ho... hope everyone has a good day.
PS in edit - throw is out of washing machine and is fine. No shrinkage and tea all removed.0
