Hi. I told them my wife would soon be starting full time work, which was the case. I did not mention the inheritance we had at the time.

to rodger, hi i was diagnosed at 16, i have never been in work.

At the very least - assuming you were a couple at the time - your ESA during the time between the inheritance and you coming off ESA will have been overpaid, and will need to be paid back.

You may also - if they believe you did this intentionally - levy an additional penalty on top of this.
Especially as - depending on the timeline - there may have been two things - the inheritance and new job - both of which will have eliminated the ESA.

Apart from the spending on the home, 45K in savings, when there is additional income into the household, in 16(?) months is a pretty high rate of spending, and real questions may arise as to if all this spending was needed, or if some portion of it was spend in order to be able to obtain benefit sooner.

If you told them about the inheritance they will ask where all the money went to, if you didn't tell them and just ended your ESA then your ESA claim will go straight through because they didn't know and you've spent all of it. Having said that because you're having chemo when you claim ESA you'll be fast tracked straight into the support group, you'll have to fill in a form and get something from your GP to say you're currently having Chemo. I'm not exactly sure what form it is, but i do know you'll be fast tracked straight into the support group. Good luck and best wishes.

Fast tracked? I've only been waiting since the beginning of March to be put into the support group.....

This isn't quite right, I'm afraid.

If you are receiving/recovering from chemotherapy then you will be put in the support group.

However, you will not necessarily be fast tracked.

In order to be fast tracked your doctor or health professional needs to complete a DS1500 form which basically is for those who are terminally ill. The figure is set at within 6 months but is quite 'flexible'. There has to be a reasonable expectation of this. The application is then fast tracked (usually about 2 weeks) and the claimant goes straight into the support group.

    This also applies to PIP.
