in Phones & TV
This may have been answered before, but can anyone advise,is there a really simpler eg cheaper way of having digital tv broadband and a land line phone (not essential) eg without a contract ,a one off fee.Are set top boxes with record and catch up all they are cracked up to be?Basically is there a way to have internet and tv without the hassle of charges creeping up and being tied to a longterm contract?Thank you in advance as I seem to be overwhelmed by the technology available and what to do with it.

There is no one-off fee available for broadband and landline phone, it would be far too expensive if there were. You can certainly get a Freeview recorder, but Catch Up services are only available via the internet.0

As above, if you're happy with 'just' having the Freeview channels, a stand- alone Freeview recorder is the way to go. I've had one for years and they change the way you watch TV.
If you have a decent 3g/4g mobile signal, you could use this as your internet, but you are at the mercy of the mobile signal being good, and will be limited on download amounts. A 'traditional' landline/broadband set-up works for most, but you'll find a 12 month contract is probably required. The price may go up, but is unlikely to shoot up over 12 months, then you can shop around and switch if needed.0
