  • Many thanks Hollydays for your sleuthing (and for connecting the two threads on MSE together).

Credit card company asking for photocopies of correspondence now. Time consuming but we'll get our refund eventually...
  • I have also just had a very bad experience with this company. I ordered some furniture from them about a month ago. Subsequently, I was advised that the bed I had chosen to buy was unavailable in the size I was looking for. Consequently, I cancelled my order and requested a refund. I made the original payment online using my Visa Debit card. However, they sent me a cheque as a refund which I paid into my account only for it to bounce. I now can't get hold of the company - they are not responding to emails and the telephone line goes straight to voicemail. Since I chose to cancel the order because they didn't have the goods I was originally looking for, I'm not sure what my rights are in terms of making a Section 75 claim. Is anyone able to advise?

    Thanks!
  • My relative eventually (about 6 weeks after starting the process) got a credit for the full amount to her CC after making a section 75 claim.

furnitureuk.co.uk sent a flurry of emails about the time that the CC company were no doubt hassling them but, despite saying they would send a cheque, nothing was received from them (as expected).

Luck to others in the same boat.
  • Hello all - newbie to the forum so hope you forgive me if this is obvious / covered elsewhere...

I'm in a similar situation to many others - I made an order on 17 September for a wardrobe (£370.96 including postage) and was told (after much pestering) that the item is out of stock and I would have to wait until 30 November. I cancelled the order as the wait was too long for me and was told to expect a cheque in the post - which of course never arrived.

After several weeks of chasing via email, the mails started to bounce. I tried calling them and the numbers appear to have been disconnected.

I would of course normally make such purchases on credit card but I foolishly made this purchase via my debit card as both my credit cards were maxed out having made several large furniture purchases (I had just bought my first flat at the time.) Do I have any recourse to recover these funds via the bank or am I left high and dry by not purchasing via credit card?

    Thanks for any thoughts/advice.

If you used debit card you can ask your bank to do a chargeback, you have 120 days from when you became aware of a problem - try googling chargeback.

My CC company refunded my money by chargeback, and surprisingly Furniture UK collected the misdescribed drawers - no doubt due to the CC making waves. I also contacted Action Fraud and Trading Standards (via Citizens Advice)

Thanks to hollydays for the detective work on this company - I find it baffling the trail of dodgy companies. I informed Watchdog, but they're just keeping it on file. Trading Standards have just sent me a complaint form to fill out, and I cannot believe that this company is still getting away with it - loads of similar stories on Review websites.

i ordered something from their site which gave a 2-4 delivery lead time. only after they took the payment did I get an email with an estimated 8-12 week delivery time! I cancelled straight away but had to wait 2 weeks for my credit card to be refunded.

Cowboy company, will never use them again.
