    Good spot

I assume Tesco staff get some form of discount on their shopping so perhaps that explains why this poster's experience is different to everyone else ?

(£10 saving sounds very little for a staff discount tho)

If you ever go on the Currency boards you will see that I state I work for Travelex, which provides the services for the travel money kiosks in all supermarkets. We don't work for them, or have anything to do with them, other than being based within a store.
  • I'm quite fussy about meat, but I now buy most of it from Aldi, and have never had a problem - I used to buy from Sainsbury's, and I can't say that I have noticed any difference. The only reason these days that I don't get it in Aldi is if I need a specific cut or type that they don't do, but their range is increasing all the time.

I've always found Aldi meats to be good quality, though kast week, I was a little annoyed that a Specially Selected pack of two pork loins had an inferior (ie fat streaked ) piece hidden under the large label, while a good steak was on show.

Aldi was mentioned, earlier this year, along with most other supermarkets, in a media article about selling us water in the form of injected chicken.

I used to think that Aldi meat was nice. But then I bought meat from my local butcher and will NEVER buy meat from a supermarket again.
Same with eggs. I just thought all eggs were the same, but then I started buying from a local farmer who sells his at the side of the road on a Saturday morning, and the taste is amazing!
We can't all live in Cornwall though.

Seems there are some great butchers around Manchester, but I couldn't see any close to the city centre. Maybe the Arndale Meat Market would be a good bet.

The best eggs I ever had were when I was camping on a farm in France, and some fresh eggs laid that morning were given to us by the owner. They were unbelievably delicious and full of flavour.

Mind you, Aldi were also caught selling a beef product that was in fact between 30% and 100% horsemeat.:)

Apaprently a product sourced from a French supplier which was using Romanian 'beef'.

And so were a lot of other stores such as Tesco.

I use my local butcher for meat when I can afford it but mainly I will buy meat from Aldi (Aberdeen Angus steaks, mince, outdoor reared pork chops, fresh chicken) - never had a problem. Tesco is expensive as is Sainsbury's and I will only buy meat in Morrisons if it is on the whoopsie shelf because that too is expensive.

I always have free range eggs.

I would contact Aldi about the chicken, their customer service is usually very good.

I like their back bacon, it's good for the money. All other meat is bought at butchers, there are loads of them where we live.

I find Aldi and Lidl to be pretty good quality, its certainly at least as good if not better than the other supermarkets.

The majority of our meat comes from a local farm shop/butchers, the meat is high quality, high welfare/free range and locally produced at simular prices to the mass produced stuff in the big supermarkets.

Just about to place my crimbo order which you pay a deposit on and can pay a bit each week to pick up xmas week/xmas eve.

Tried some mince as well. Rather than get the cheaper mince, or the second cheapest, I went for their premium Angus mince with the lowest fat percent (because I thought it would be the best quality). It was some of the worst mince I've ever had.

It smelled horrible while cooking (I don't even understand how it's possible for frying beef to not smell nice, but this didn't). And then once cooked into a chilli, it had a hard, gritty texture, rather than being succulent and soft, and it tasted bad, in spite of the chilli flavourings.

So yeah, they failed the second chance I gave them. I will buy my meat from elsewhere, and use ALDI for non-meat purchases.
