Quality of meat in ALDI?

I've never had an issue with meat bought in Aldi. I do try to use my local butcher for meat, but the rest is from Aldi (or Waitrose if YS)0

I'm very fussy about meat and can't fault any that I've bought from Aldi which, so far, includes whole chickens, Scotch beef beefburgers and pork chops - all have been as good as you'll get from any of the supermarkets - and a lot better than the rubbish I've had in the past from Tesco and Sainsbury's.
Snowcat75's post (above) is very informative and I completely agree about Tesco's use of East European meat in its processed products. I recently noted that its frozen fish often seems to come from there, too. I cannot think of any benefit to shopping at Tesco these days.0 -

I feel like I'm the only person in the world who manages to shop more cheaply at Tescos than anywhere else.
In my town theres a Sainsburys, Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, Iceland and Farmfoods. We used to shop at Aldi and Farmfoods and never really had much, we had to do a late night shop one night and everywhere was shut bar Tesco so we went there, and came away with so much more, and all brand items!
I don't know how we do it, but Tesco is about £10 cheaper a week for us than Aldi alone, and we get 1 bag for life more out of it!0 -
I used to think that Aldi meat was nice. But then I bought meat from my local butcher and will NEVER buy meat from a supermarket again.
Same with eggs. I just thought all eggs were the same, but then I started buying from a local farmer who sells his at the side of the road on a Saturday morning, and the taste is amazing!0 -
....Personally as a producer although cereals I would say Aldi are the better of the bunch and nearly all there meats are from UK producers, bottom of the bunch IMHO is Tesco who screw prices, outsource from Eastern Europe when the UK can not supply at there set prices. It is why so many of there products ended up being horse.
Mind you, Aldi were also caught selling a beef product that was in fact between 30% and 100% horsemeat.:)
Apaprently a product sourced from a French supplier which was using Romanian 'beef'.

I think you're right about meat but thanks to the gullibility of the British public, we've let most of our independent butchers (and fishmongers) get driven out of business by supermarkets, so quite a few MSE readers won't have the chance to follow your example.
As most of our eggs come from our own chickens, I concur about the superior flavour of 'the real thing'.0 -
I have had mixed quality meats from Aldi - I have never had a problem with the chicken, and I got a Christmas turkey (free range) from there last Christmas and it was lovely. I am trying to reduce the amount of meat that we eat in general, and I think that next time I buy meat I will buy from one of the online suppliers who do free range/organic. I agree with others about Tesco - I almost never shop there any more.Jane

I think you could be right! Which explains their dreadful trading figures!:rotfl:0 -

You'd be surprised how busy the butcher here is on a Saturday morning, you cant move for people! They supply Tesco with meat, but sell it so much cheaper from their outlet. I fill my freezer with meat for about £50 a month and we are quite big meat eaters.0 -
Check the ingredients - does it say water? That may be a clue.0
