A pregnant pause with Easy Jet

Just looking for a prod in the right direction.

Mid October I booked 4 tickets for myself, my wife and two 20 something kids to go to Corfu. We made the flight booking through a booking agency and they got us tickets with Easy Jet to Corfu, departing 8th August.

My daughter has just found out she is pregnant and the prospect of Corfu with a young baby is not that appealing. I thought no problem its 9 months until we are due to fly just cancel the ticket that we no longer required and claim a refund.... wrong!

As a low cost airline Easy Jet operate a 24 hour cancellation policy - no refunds after 24 hours. I paid for the tickets using my credit card.

No holiday insurance in place for my daughter and son as yet - only for myself and the wife.

So questions - any point in pursuing Easy Jet beyond their customer services phone team for a refund??

Could I claim off of our holiday insurance?

Could I claim for the ticket from the credit card company?

Would be grateful for any suggestions.

I can't see you getting anywhere with the insurance or CC. You could change the booking to a later date?

This is exactly the kind of thing travel insurance is for, but I very much doubt you will be covered if the person cancelling is not named on the policy.

I assume that you either normally travel in expensive flexible tickets or rarely buy airline tickets as you seem surprised. This is the case with the majority of flight tickets sold

you will be due a refund on some of the airport taxes if you cancel. Any other claim would be against insurance if you had it however insurance would be unlikely to cover for disinclination to travel. Having a young baby does not make travel impossible

Easyjet normally allow a change of date for a small fee and the difference in fare, they used to also allow a name change.

I doubt travel insurance would have covered you against changing your mind or pregnancy.

Easyjet would be happy to offer the service, so why (other than taxes, as required by law) should they refund?

The terms and conditions of the ticket should have been explained to you by the booking agency. Once you pay as far as the airline is concerned you have agreed and they will not change the t&cs

Though this board has an obsession with incessantly pointing out to people that they should have had travel insurance, it most definitely would not have helped in this case. I can't envisage a single insurer that would pay out because you got yourself pregnant and don't feel like travelling with a baby.

I agree in this instance that it wouldn't have helped. But if just one more person takes out insurance due to reading of the obsession then it's worth it IMO.

The danger is that people think that travel insurance will give cover in situations where it won't apply, like this one.

Of course you're right but without it, nothing will be covered.
