Exchanging hudl for third time!! Warrenty period has been changed

Earlier this year, in April, I bought a hudl 1 for my daughter. It had problems with the charging port so I exchanged for a new one, with no fuss. Now the second hudl 1 also has problems with charging so I called Tesco's customer service, expecting the same fuss free experience. This time I was told that the hudl will be exchanged for a refurbished model and that the warrenty would be reduced from one year to only three months. Is this right?
The guy on the phone was not very forthcoming with information, it's only through my questioning that he told me about it being refurbished and about the warrenty, otherwise I would have been none the wiser. Can I not pay the difference and get the newer model? I still have the original receipt and packaging.

Warranties usually run from the original purchase date and sometimes if you get a replacement under warranty, the replacement will have a 3/6 month warranty itself - but usually this only really applies if your original warranty is due to expire before then (ie you get it replaced on month 11 with 1 month warranty left, the refurb would extend that by 2 months).

Any replacement only needs to be on a like for like basis - that includes condition and age.

But while you might not have a right to demand a new one, perhaps if you ask nicely they'll issue a partial refund - allowing you to pay the difference to buy a new one.

A tablet made by Archos, falling to bits after less than 6 months? Who'd have thought that would happen ;)

No. You will have approx. 5 months warranty - the remaining left of the original years warranty.

I'm going to get my better half to give them a call to see if we can pay the difference to get the hudl2. He's got the gift of the gab, so here's hoping.
