Boiler damaged by power surge?

Hello.
We received the keys to our new house about a month ago, and a few days after we got the kays, we went around the house checking everything worked.
We checked the hot water and heating - all ok.
A few days after that, there were several electrical disturbances due to the electricity distibution company (YEDL) finding a fault outside. This led to tripped circuit breakers and a couple of blown bulbs.
Now, 3 weeks on, our plumber has been to check the gas appliances, and could not get the boiler to light - turns out there were scorch marks on the back of the clock, and the PCB needs to be replaced.
Now, it seems a big coincidence to me that we had all these electrical shenanigans, and now the delicate electrics in our boiler have stopped working. Incidentally, seeing as the house is empty, that was the only thing connected to the mains that would have been drawing power at the time.
What do you guys suggest I do? a new PCB will be £230 including fitting, which I am really not very happy to pay.
Do I have any redress with YEDL on this one?
Thanks in advance...

Do you know what the fault was?
We had a "neutral earth fault" down the road, which left us without electricity for a whole weekend.
The electric company came around and checked everyones wiring for faults and fixed/replaced any appliances that had fried - worth giving them a call as they may have called when you weren't there (although you would have thought they would leave you a note!)
We ended up getting our feed from the road replaced (for free) as they had never seen a cable like it...0
