They have shown me the pictures of the building works, scaffolding and stuff on there, the Receptionist staff who booked them in told them that hotel was still being built.
I will look at the documents tomorrow and report back.0 -
Huh??? How do you know that's my neighbour, I don't even know that? I will click on the link myself and see what it supposedly looks like. From the pix they showed me of their accommodation, it looks like a ish hole!
It would be some coincidence if it is not - and surely you know given it states her name and has her picture?
I don't think anyone is suggesting your friend is lying, but there is some confusion in the story - people are still posting reviews on their original hotel.0 -
T
They have said that the actual building was there, but with building still taking place. They took photos. They were booked into a different building that had it's own name, different from the Name of the hotel they were booked in and this hotel was further up the hill, so not on the same patch of land. I hope this makes sense.
Wood - yes paid using credit card.
.
I'm confused. In OP you said they were dropped at building site and went to hotel nearby who said the hotel they were booked into was being built. So how did they find out which hotel they were actually booked in to?

It's also worth a look on Google Streetview - the very steep hill is, well, a slight slope. There is a half finished building very close by, but I don't know how old the image is.0

At midnight they are dropped off at said "hotel" which is a building site, shuttle driver drives off, they walk up to another hotel. They showed their documents to the Reception staff who then said to them "....your hotel is still being built, but you have been booked into this hotel/apartment".
Which now makes me think, was the building site part of the same hotel chain if they had their details/booking, even though the hotel names didn't match??0 -

She is relatively 'fit' but has arthritis and a bone condition, I forget the name, which makes walking long distances/up steep hills etc. difficult. He is over weight, recovering heart attack-quadruple heart op, walking is difficult for him, plus his nasal passages are blocked as he suffers from blackouts and broke his nose once so nasal passage blocked, they can't operate as he's overweight and with his heart condition he's a high risk, as I said, a catalogue of health problems.
All of this was stated and additionally they ALWAYS take out additional travel insurance because of their health conditions/disabilities, just in case.0 -
Forgot to say, I googled both hotel names and they both return the trip advisor page for the same hotel.0

Just read this on the hotels website so i'm assuming this was the building they were dropped off at. Looks like the driver made a mistake in where he left them and the hotel they stayed at was in fact the correct one......
"New for 2015 - the addition of the Hawaii Suites Building situated across the street from the hotel (main building). The Suites Building will be totally renovated and will consist of Junior Suites and 1 Bedroom Apartments (both without seaviews)"0 -

It doesn't matter what you told the company though, if they don't guarantee rooms (which I assume they don't) then you aren't guaranteed a ground floor room. I also doubt whoever they spoke to was intimately aware of the hotel and knew there would be a slope involved. If it's so crucial for it to be flat then they should have checked (unless they were specifically told it was?).
It also seems a bit strange that being let out of the taxi on the opposite side of the road to the actual hotel resulted in her bursting into tears and everyone else to get distressed. There seems to be a lot of hyperbole in the story. Though I do agree, that's disgusting service. There's no way in Hell if I was driving that I'd just leave a confused and arthritic mum and largely immobile dad with kids on the side of the road at midnight!
It must be incredibly stressful living with those medical conditions so they have my greatest sympathy that the holiday didn't go as they planned it, but it seems (please do come back and correct this if they were specifically told there would be no slope and a ground floor room) that it was their lack of research that was the problem.0
