P C Memory Compatability Question

I've just added more RAM to my P C. by replacing an existing 512MB by 1GB DDR 184 pin, DIMM, PC3200. Will this memory work in another older P C which uses DDR 184 pin, DIMM, PC2100? If so it would save the cost of buying new PC2100 to increase the older P C's memory which has 2 x 256MB at the moment.

It should work - but wouldn't it be cheaper to buy 1GB DDR 184 pin, DIMM, PC2100 (if you can get hold of it)?
You could also just replace one of the 256MB sticks with a 512MB stick. I did and my PC recognises 768MB as being installed.

Thanks rmg1, Rather than buy more memory I am hoping to replace one of the 256MB (PC2100) with the now surplus 512MB (PC3200). I just didn't want to go ahead and fit the 512MB PC3200 without confirmation that it should work! It is an old PC (relatively) and only had 256MB originally, a further 256MB was added in the spare slot some time ago but now having the extra 512MB (PC3200) I might as well increase to 768MB without further expenditure - in best MSE manner!

Try it, if it doesn't work it won't break anything so you can just chuck the original one back in.
