Boiler grant, installation fees, cash payment

An elderly relative has qualified for a new boiler under the replacement grant and a survey was completed. The engineer/surveyor said that a new dedicated gas feed pipe (approx 11m external run) from the meter was needed (current supply feeds gas hob, gas fire, and broken boiler), along with a new flue pipe (current pipe is horizontal but needs 90 degree elbow and vertical flue) and the power sockets adjacent boiler need to be moved to make space for the new boiler (which will be installed on another wall). The company is asking for £300 for this work and insists on cash payment. Is the amount reasonable for the work that needs to be done? We were planning to pay with a building society cheque, but have no issue paying cash if a full invoice is available. Can the supplier insist on cash payment?

- I would not enter into any legal contract that had any term that was not traceable
- contact your solicitor for legal advice, why do you think they want untraceable cash ?Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Thanks for your reply. I would not see this as such an issue if a full invoice and receipt was available, but would prefer not to use cash.0 -
Help I have a Worcester condensing boiler fitted 7 years. After 2 years I have had regular problems with it ever since. 6 weeks ago I had a service and the radiators stopped heating. I could only get 1 radiator at a time to work. Under our cover insurance they refused to do anything until I paid for a powerflush. Powerflush done and very little change 3 radiators heated to a luke warm temperature and literally 24 hours after its doesn't work at all. The insurance company i was covered with said its the back flow of rubbish from the build up in the radiators caused the boiler to break down...not covered for this. Ive had someone we know look at it and been told for the parts to be replaced etc I'm looking at £750. I really don't have that money at all which is why i paid for cover. I am a full time working single parent, have always worked but just to say manage. I have looked at the free boiler scheme which i qualify for due to low wages and tax credits but apparently my boilers too new and being a condenser not allowed a new boiler under the scheme. I really don't know what to do. Right now its getting colder and I have no heating at all and the house is starting to smell damp. I would appreciate any advice here or if anyone has any knowledge on any other schemes that could help me.0

- a wilfully crazy decision to agree to an unreasonable contract term being imposed on your relative
- if anything hits the fan, you will almost never get your cash back, you paid cash in your own home
- I would """see this as a big issue even if a full invoice and receipt was available""
- everything written by consumer protection organisations explicitly tells you not to do this
- your decision - best of luck - I hope it works out ok for your elderly relative !Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
