Default added to my credit file 18 months later

Morning MSE peeps
My apologies if this has been answered already, I have tried to search but I can't find the specific quote/information I'm looking for.
I had a debt with a payday lender some time ago, which was sold to a collection agency. Neither the payday lender or the DCA report my account to Experian, but they both reported to the other CRA's.
The default was issued by the DCA in April 2013, which updated my credit files as defaulted, except Experian who had no record of the account.
I made payment in full and settled the account in October this year (18 months after the default) and the account has been updated to Satisfied, however Experian now shows the account when it didn't used to. I do not dispute the fact that the account was in default, but it's a default added to Experian which I didn't have before.
I am sure I have read somewhere, that a default must be reported to a CRA within 6 months, is this correct or have I dreamt it? To cut a long story short, Experian tell me they can't do anything and have contacted the DCA who have said the same thing. So I need to write them a letter (if I am in the right of course), and would like to include some official information on the length of time they have to report a default.
Can anyone help me with this at all?
Many thanks

Hi there,
I had ths situation with a default a whle ago where it was being recorded with Equifax and CallCredit but not Experian.
Really though I dont think it matters that much who it is recorded with as when applying for credit a lender may search either of the CRAs report so it could possibly be flagged up then unless the specific lender that you are appying with only report and search through Experian.0 -

The default date should generally be within 6 months. No time limit to add that though as long as the default date is correct when they do.Still rolling rolling rolling......<
