Hi I hope I am in the right place to ask about British Gas.
Had a phone call from BG last month saying they wished to organise both gas and electric meters to be changed over to smart meters. We moved into this house 18 months ago. The gas meter is in the front garden sticking up with a ?wooden box over it. Eyesore. Just phoned the GB and asked if they could provide a proper cover with the new meter. The answer was we would have to buy our own and it was not their responsibility. I thought the meter belonged to them and in that case they would have to house it responsibly and protect it from the elements. Am I wrong?

Yes you are wrong. It is their meter but you have to provide somewhere for it to live. Look at it like renting a car, the company will maintain it but you have to look after it and keep it safe

Should be easy enough to knock up a box out of pallets, and make it weatherproof with a plastic lining. Could make a feature of it, paint it a nice colour, grow a creeper plant over it. You don't have to have smart meters if you don't want them.
