Second link found one. Whether its a convenient part of wilts ( Swindon) is another issue.
Yes, you are right! I found Swindon college, and assumed that was the only one, but there is another which does A levels and would potentially be commutable. Salisbury and Frome are a bit too far south for us. You are right, I'll look a bit harder.
Thank you to everyone for all feedback! It's reassuring to see that nobody has come back and said that their children have gone for the Diploma and found doors slammed in their faces, which is what I was concerned about.0 -
I agree that some commutes are too difficult (especially when they want to stay into the evening!) but some aren't too bad. Really depends on connections and comfort of bus / train more than distance.
Can I throw something else into the mix? International Baccalaureate is a fantastic option. at 16-19 they study 6 "higher" & 3 "lower" subjects, from across the curriculum. Theory of knowledge, creativity (arts) action & service are mandatory. So your daughter could do work around drama and do related academic subjects. A major part of the award is an extended essay that requires independent research, and I have known this centre around creative subjects.
It is not an easy option, but I have never a met a student who regretted doing it. It's loved by universities and is a really good way to keep options open.
It is offered at a lot of colleges & schools in the UK - many are private (because of course, it is much liked by international students) but my son did it at an ordinary FE college.
I really think it is worth a quick look at the website: http://www.ibo.org/diploma0 -
So difficult for them when they don't have a specific career in mind! Grandaughter (who lives with me) has gone to 6th Form College and absolutely loves it. Didn't want to stay on at school 6th form. I have to say that her particular 6fc seems to get all the options right. She is an autumn baby, but nevertheless even at early 16 seems to be blossoming.0

I went to a regular college where I did a levels. I'm sure that should be an option in your area.
College was great. A wide mix of people doing different courses and the chance to be an adult in a fresh start with new friends did me the world of good.Debt at highest: £8k. Debt Free 31/12/2009. Original MFD May 2036, MF Dec 2018.0 -
