Unfortunately, they don't have a crystal ball, also the computer system just sees the transactions and applies the charge, it's nothing personal. Some mistake!
Since TSB pay 5% interest on their current account up to £2k, it surely is a mistake not to take maximum advantage of this by having your money languishing in a linked TSB savings account which only pays what? 0.2% - 2%?

They are totally in the wrong, that's why they refunded you.0

AFAIK save the change will only take place if the account stays in credit.
So that particular transaction and the D/D did not happen the same day and is a red herring.
OP what was the D/D for? Take care that the recipient do not charge you for non payment which could affect future credit applications.0
