O/S Daily Saturday 8th November 2014

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

• Good Morning everyone, up early due to thundering rain on the roof which disturbed the lurcher. He's faring so much better this year with the fireworks but still reacting to sudden loud noises that wake him up unexpectedly. I'm feeling better this morning the virus/cold seems to have loosened its' grip a little so although still coughing and spluttering a bit it's nowhere near as bad as yesterday so I'll be able to get to the shops today without feeling guilty for potentially spreading germs amongst my fellow shoppers.

Not much planned for today but some ironing that has built up over the last couple of days and I really need to dust and vacuum upstairs, haven't had enough energy for a couple of days. I suspect we might get quite a lot of fireworks this evening but it's been quieter than usual down here this year, last night we had some quite close ones from the next street over does this hold true in other parts of the country? I wonder if folks have realised that it is wasted money and although fun, decided not to spend quite so much money 'to burn'?

Hope you all have a good day, that all poorlies are feeling better and more positive and that the sun shines on you all either literally or in some other way to make you happy, Lyn xxx.

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Now light, still rather windy but sky looks quite clear and drying up underfoot.

DH and myself up enjoying first peaceful cuppas of the day.

Dinner last night was pasta with bacon and mushrooms in a creamy chicken sauce – was a bit of a made up recipe but worked very well – the menfolk had chicken and bacon kievs with theirs. I managed to get some YS chicken pakoras and garlic dough balls, so I had the pasta with a couple of the pakoras, all eaten and enjoyed.

Went to mum’s yesterday to use her big iron press to press the tablecloths for next weekend, so that’s now all done. On the way back I visited the SM’s – it was so lovely to be independent and just be able to go about doing what I need to at my leisure.

By the time I got back I knew then that I needed to sit down for a bit and just take it steady. Foot feels quite stiff again this morning – once I’m up and moving it’s not so bad, so will just be taking it steady again, although I do have things to do today. I will be heading into town first thing, I need to visit the bank, and then just pop into SM as I forgot to pick up some honey and brown sauce, which I need to make tonight’s dinner, which is going to be spare ribs, jacket potatoes, with cheese beans and salad.

Have great Saturday’s everyone x

Take care x

Keep safe and well x

Morning everyone.

Dark outside and more rain overnight here. Hopefully all the water over the roads will have had time to seep away. Managed to get into town last night for our chinese takeaway though the road has a stretch controlled by lights because one side is under water.

Need to get to the post office today. We're off to a Ross Noble gig at the end of this month (first visit to Newcastle since leaving a year ago) and I'm worried about the roads/weather so sending the tickets off to friends in case travel becomes a problem. At least then they can still go!

Tonight there is the 'guy' to burn. It's been built on a little piece of land sticking out in the end of the sea. Blokes have been wading out at low tide with pallets to build it, luckily it's not been washed away but it's dreadfully soaking wet. Not sure it'll take the fire. Such a shame as the usual lantern parade is not happening this year.

No shopping needed. No washing needed. Will defrost the raw venison mince and make it into various meals and then re freeze. Also got a bag on venison chunks to deal with later.

Right, off to face the day.

Hope everyone is doing well or getting better.

Happy Saturday.
• Good morning all,

Thank you nmic for starting today's thread.

Well the rain has finally stopped, but more promised for later. The weather was so depressing yesterday, and I hate being cold.

Off to the NEC Craft Show today with DGD so really looking forward to that. I won't be buying masses of stuff, but have saved some pennies if I see anything I think would be good as a Christmas present.

Taking ham rolls and bottles of water, so very OS , and also I can travel on the train free showing my bus pass so only need to buy DGDs ticket.

Lyn I sm glad you are feeling a little better, but do take it steady, if it is anything like the virus we had, you think you are on the mend, and then it come back and bites you on the b*m.:)

Have a good day everyone, and will catch up with all your news later.

Candlelightx

Nice easy drive into work this morning, looks like it's going to be a quiet day here. Cooked a sausage casserole, cauli cheese and a plum and almond tart yesterday for us to have for dinner tonight, so no excuse for a takeaway which has become a bit of a Saturday night habit. DH is running this morning and will then do a few errands for me in town while he is out, saved me going out yesterday afternoon, which I am grateful for. The boys (16 and 13) should be doing their homework this morning, DS16 may be persuaded to chop some logs as he wants to earn some money for Christmas.

Morning all,

Been raining here all morning but stopped now not sure the washing will be hung out though its too damp.

Little dog continues to do well, we are off to the vets this morning to get her checked I will mention the lump on her neck which seems to be growing, we are injecting her in a different place now so I think its best to get it checked.

No shopping to do today but I might have a browse online later for some xmas / birthday presents.

Washing is on the go and we will have a hoover through later on after the vets.

Have good days all xx

Hello Poddly :coffee: :D

We've had a visitor in the garden for a few days – a partridge :D I thought it was a grouse, but google says partridge :D He arrives around lunchtime, has a nosy through the twigs on the veg patch for a few minutes then flies off, always in the same direction.

I'm not stepping foot outside today, it's hammering down. I will artfully drape the washing around the house to dry :D

No real plans for today, just pottering about and tidying up a bit.

Morning all
The fish have been fed & hubby & I had breakfast, porridge for me full cooked for him, he's happier now he's back at work.
I need to get my kitchen cleared today as it's become a dumping ground & I need to get it sorted, I have 2 of the DGC visiting later & staying overnight, so I've sorted the spare room out, the cot was still up from half term. We will watch a film & eat popcorn as a treat tonight, tomorrow we are taking them out for lunch. No doubt we will squeeze in some cooking/sewing whatever they want to do. They had a contact visit last week with a grandparent, first one for 5 years, an hour sat in a room in silence, not quite sure what it was meant to achieve!
WM & DW both chugging away & it's time I popped to the shop to buy extra milk for breakfast tomorrow.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
Chin up, Titus out.

Morning Everyone
Back on our own now after taking our friends to the Airport. Nice to see friends, but always nicer to see them go, IYKWIM :)
Today will be a chill day, the bedding is on the line, and the towels will be done tomorrow. We will take Skye for a long "fast" walk. After eating out far too often for the last week, DH has requested Beans & Egg on Toast for dinner tonight. Will put the steak we brought home from the restaurant last night in the freezer for later. The piccies were on the "Awaitiing meat feast" thread on FB. I had to leave half my sirloin. Skye will be having a treat later :)

Just had to read back 3 days so here goes, in no order:
Molly How did you go on at the hospital
Elona Hope DH picks up for the wedding
LW Fingers crossed the improvement on your hand continues, glad to see you have a fur baby due.
Dumpling That is totally unacceptable, agree with the others it wants reporting. If it does not stop move schools PDQ. The school should be more than "dealing with it" they should be excluded for dangerous actions.
nmic Please to hear you are back mobile, but easy does it.
:hello: & Welcome Poddly
RR Hope little dog is OK when the vet sees him.
MrsLW So glad lurcher is OK with the treatment, and pleased that most of your pets have not been too distressed.
((hugs)), spoons, & positive vibes to the above, and anyone else, I've forgotten, overlooked, or would just like them, grab a handful.
Take care everyone, DG
