Advice needed re photos and mystery shopping

Hello, I have been a MS for about 5 years and use a PC with Picassa. My pics are uploaded to google + as a backup and I delete them when the need for them passes.
Problem is tonight my son has cleaned down re-installed my programs and now picassa isn't working great.
For example I was doing a marketforce MS and on the last page you upload the pics but where I used to click on the side at pictures and all my recent picassa files would be there for me to select. Now it shows just general big picassa categories - ie. it's sh@te.
Seriously, 3 hours later I want to chuck the thing in the bin.:mad:
Son says picassa outdated but the simple tools like cropping or brightening were handy - it used to work ok.
Bah humbug...what does everyone else do? Any sane people out there who will save my sanity?:A

Picassa still works well for simple editing.
