Blamed for bank fraud - HELP !
Comments
-
It's a good idea, but unless it's other country only ISP know the location.
Also, this information can give some idea of what happened, but can't prove anything.
The banks take on the situation is essentially the same as Suicidebob's so If I can at least prove something like that has happened it could mean that they will actually investigate the fraud instead of leaving it as a presumption.
Hopefully it is something I can request - I will post here on this once I have discussed with the bank.0 -

Never mind my previous comment then

Personally you need to complain.
You don't need to put it in writing, you can complain in branch or over the phone.
The advantage of putting the complaint in writing, particularly in a case like this, are manifold:- you got a record of what you complained about and when
- you can take your time to formulate a complete complaint
- it helps with not forgetting important facts as time goes on (if you need to take it to the FOS it can drag on for months and months)
- it looks more professional and determined than a verbal complaint
- if you have to go to the FOS, you'll have a ready written record readily available
- etc

I was told to either move the money into another account as to ensure that I wouldn't spend the money or leave it where it was (which I did)
I find this a bit strange. They told you to move it or leave it where it was?
People don't hack your account to give you money.
Are you going to try convince the bank someone hacked your account, decided to transfer in £5K, then forgot about it?0 -
Personally you need to complain.
You don't need to put it in writing, you can complain in branch or over the phone. The likelihood is it won't be sorted and it will be taken further to customer relations.
They then have 8 weeks to respond, if you are still not happy go to ombudsman.
In the meantime try and find another bank.
I did complain - spoke over the phone to a representative today.
Seemed quite annoyed to have to deal with my issue and I sensed he also was acting under the presumption that I am guilty. E.g If I tried to explain something he would sigh etc.
Also told me that the account closure could not be reversed but he would look into the CIFAS issue.
However everything he said in regards to that was exactly the same as what other bank staff had told me so I doubt anything will come of this except final response whereby I will have to deal with CIFAS and Ombudsman.0 -

No.
The bank had advised me to keep the money where it was or move it away at the time of me calling the bank to query the deposits BEFORE the accs were frozen.
I do not know why someone would move 5k into my account - as per one of the prev comments I would stretch to think that it may be possible they wanted to move the money between multiple accounts before finally moving into their own. JUST A THEORY.
Edit: Just to clear up the people whose accounts were used to deposit money in had their (I presume due to being FPI payments) Online accounts Hacked and used to pay into mine.0 -
People do use hacked accounts for channeling stolen money to other accounts to make tracing more difficult.suicidebob wrote: »People don't hack your account to give you money.
It would be interesting to know the timing, i.e. when the money was credited and when the OP discovered this, but if it was the same day then only the bank know this.0 -

But in this case they didn't channel it anywhere. I don't imagine any decent fraudster would leave the money in the account for more than the time it takes to log in and transfer it back out.0 -
I did complain
Calling to say you are unhappy and to discuss your problem isn't classed a complaint. You need a complaint reference number, and you need to have a record of exactly what your complaint is about.
The official BOS complaints procedure is here: http://www.bankofscotland.co.uk/contactus/complain/
BTW, if you have exhausted the normal shop floor CS, you can also escalate your complaint, in writing, to the CEO's/MD's office. They don't publish the name of a BOS MD, so you might as well escalate your complaint straight to Mr Horta-Os!rio, the CEO of LBG. It's what I would do if I knew I am in the right.0 -
That's why I asked about the timing.suicidebob wrote: »But in this case they didn't channel it anywhere. I don't imagine any decent fraudster would leave the money in the account for more than the time it takes to log in and transfer it back out.
Accidents happen even with decent fraudsters.0
