Electricians-how long should it take to get a quote?

Had a job looked at on Wednesday evening, electrician asked me for email address so to send me quote then gave me business card, still not heard anything from him so emailed him this morning, should it take this long?

Yes, depending on the size of the job and how busy he is. It's the working week, if he's been working yesterday and today with long hours (which sparks do) then it's unlikely he's had any time to sit down, write it, get prices from suppliers (who can occasionally take some time to respond with trade prices), look at days he can do it for you and then send. Wait until after the weekend.

as above depending on the job and whats required they maybe waiting on quotes from the wholesalers. Upto 5 working days would be around the norm I would guess unless its a very simple job.
Also depends what type of company your dealing with, the smaller guys dont have a single person who sits behind their desk all day issuing quotes they are out on the tools so getting quotes out have to fit in, some even dedicate a set part of the week for getting quotes out
Everyones opinion is the most important.....no wonder nothing is ever agreed on.

Woahhhh chill out give them chance !

I used to say for quotes that weren't straight forward you can expect it within the week. Simple jobs may be a day or two.
As has been said if he was busy then he's not going to drop everything to do a quote etc

Sometimes being pushy ( no offence meant ) goes against the grain and could well put them off doing the work you want them to do... it has done me a few times, case of heck if they are like this now what they going to be like when I'm working for them.
You may click thanks if you found my advice useful

Depends if he wants the job, if its rubbish expect a long wait.
  • I always reckon on having quotes within a fortnight.

In last area, I can only recall one quote not turning up within that time (and that particular quote never ever did turn up - despite several "nags" at them for it).

I've moved across country and still reckon on a fortnight. That now translates into some will turn up within a fortnight and a noticeable number of quotes never ever do turn up:huh:, but waiting an extra week or even month for them and even doing "nags" about them still doesn't make those quotes turn up. So I just think "Your loss" and move onto the next one.
