statute barred account closed

I have been chased for over 10 years about an account (one of many) that was taken out in my name when my bag was stolen in a night club.

After much fuss and kerfuffle I today received a letter from the current owner of the credit account stating that the original account is statute bared, my account has been closed & that I will not be contacted about the monies by anyone in the future (yay!).

My Question is...how will this affect my credit score? it has been very bad since this event as multiple accounts & cards were opened even though some took the crime reference number and were later removed from my file, we are going back over 15 years in total.

Will the account still show on my credit file? what as? Will my credit score get better or worse? or stay the same.? Also how long do i wait before asking a credit ref agency to remove it if it stays on there?

Thank you

MSU

A debt being statute barred does not directly impact on your credit file. It does not give an automatic right for it to be removed, however...

The account will drop off your credit file 6years after the default date registered on your credit file. If that is more than 6years ago then it will no longer show on your credit file and no longer impact on your ability to get credit.

If you haven't checked your credit files recently then it will be worth doing so to check what accounts show and whether any of this old disputed debt is still showing and if so what default dates are on file.

things aside, you do know the company didnt do anything wrong?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • I'm sorry I don't understand?

    Which company?

The various companies who took my id with an umatching person and fake signature? or the companies who chased me for money despite not only having a crime reference number but also a prosecution for ID theft when my id was found?

Either way there is not a lot i can do now, other than enquire as to if this hell may be over for me 15 years after the theft and 12 years since the first contact i had about an unpaid bill.

I have managed to get credit since then, but at extortionate rates through no fault of my own. It is a shame.

I agree. Check your credit files to make sure.

Dont worry about the comment from chanz. They are prone to snide remarks like that.
