DLA question

I am currently getting income support as i am not entitled to incapacity.
I was advised to apply for DLA so i did and that was ages ago.
Final i got a latter a week ago saying that they are reviewing my claim.
Is it normal to take long for a claim to be processed how long does it usualy take for dla to be processed.
If im not turned down for dla will they back date the payments from the date i made the claim from?.
I was told by someone who called me about my income support to claim for dla because of my mental health problems.
I gave as much detail as possible on the forms when i filled them out online like it said on the website.

it does take a long time for dla claims to be processed. if it takes more than 3-4 months i'd give them a call to ask where in the process things are. (the claimant must phone themselves and you'll need your national insurance number etc as proof it is you).
but since you just got a letter then you can assume they are working on it.
if your claim is sucessful it is backdated to the date the application was requested by phone or the date submitted if you just picked one up as long as this was after 3 months of you having the condition at that level.
it is also 'normal' to have to appeal. you should ask the cab or a welfare rights officer to accompany you if you need to do this- please don't let it fluster you, it's just the way they seem to operate these days. best to appear in person and bring back-up proof (letters from professionals etc).
best practice is to keep a copy of your original claim form around so you'll know what it is you told them (also handy if you need to renew a claim).0 -

Yes I regularly help clients with mental health problems to get DLA. It's usually best if you can get medical evidence in with the claim form.I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!0
