is it better to live together or apart

I am recently retired with a state pension and a company pension, and until I was 60 was claiming Carers Allowance which has stopped now. My boyfriend does not live with me but is disabled and wishes to move in together. Would he lose his benefits of DLA at the middle rate and Income Support if he moved in with me. He is under retirement age and is currently paying rent to a private landlord. I do not want either of us to be out of pocket over this move but it would be more convenient. Can anyone help me with an answer to this query.

it's always better to live together than apart, hun! But, oh, what cost! When you are co-habitting and on benefits, you almost always end up way less than if you added the two singles' rates together. Then again, it really is cheaper per person to live with one another.

I would get in contact with Age Concern who will not only tell you about your benefits, but also make sure you are claiming everything that you are entitled to. www.ageconcern.org.uk/h

PS I may be wrong but I assume that Income Support is for claimants with children in your household for whom you are responsible?

As well as money comming in, you need to look at money going out. I mean if he loses his income support does it really matter as he no longer has to pay the rent with it anyway ? I am pretty sure DLA is not means tested.

I know entitledto.com are very good, but i don't know if they take into account persons of pension age, but worth looking at.
