Don't we all have "hopes of redemption"?
No. In fact, I have a T-shirt that says "Unsaved" across the front in big red letters that I delight in wearing in certain parts of America.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can't see them.0 -

"The Treasury will redeem the outstanding £1.9 billion of debt from 3½% War Loan on Monday 9 March 2015
The register of holders of 3½% War Loan is maintained by the gilt registrar, Computershare Investor Services PLC, and they will contact all registered holders in due course to make arrangements for the redemption payment."0 -
Thanks Masomnia. It came as a complete surprise, I thought I would have it for as long as I wanted. I do not have a lot in it but the interest has been a nice little income that always seemed to arrived just as it was needed. I will miss it but as you say, I will get it back and will have to find somewhere else to save it.0

I can remember the days when it traded under £20. It was under £80 around 18 months ago.0 -
My grandfather bought £500 worth in 1917, presumably as a patriotic gesture.
A bit like hammering a nail into Hindenburg's wooden effigy, and just as poor an investment.
£500 would have bought a decent house in 1917.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
He would have had the opportunity of getting the money back in 1932.0

Mmm we live in interesting times!
I mooted the idea on here in 2010 of buying a load of war loan at £70 a pop rather than put it in a cash ISA. Didn't go ahead. Never mind!“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0
