My hair is dry and frizzy and I also have it coloured at a salon. I have tried everything and I have found that a kitchen oil works as well as any expensive treatment. I rub in a couple of tablespoons of warm olive oil and leave it in for half an hour and then shampoo and condition as normal.

My hair isn't particularly dry/damaged. When I get my hair dyed, it's generally only the roots that need doing. I may get a full head colour once every three months.

I need to use a leave in conditioner because if I don't I can't get a comb through my hair. The serum I use is very light weight and it suits my hair. I have very fine straight hair, but I do have a lot of it.

Also I very rarely use any heat on my hair. I let it dry naturally.

I will have a look at clarifying shampoos and a deep hair mask. any recommendations?

I don't have a suggestion for you, because my hair is different to yours, if your hair was dry/damaged like mine I would suggest things like the Elasticizer extreme and Masquintense by Kerastase or Damage Remedy by Aveda (though these tend to work better as Christmas gifts ;))

For a clarifying shampoo I can recommend Bumble and Bumble's Sunday shampoo but again not cheap (so best as a gift!) I have used Redken's clarifying shampoo before- not sure of the name but it's in a white bottle, works well but don't use daily.
I can also recommend the L'Oreal Professional's clarifying shampoo- blue transparent bottle, clear shampoo- sorry I don't remember the name but it's a not too harsh type and could possibly be used a few times a week if needed.

I would say that if you can, lay off the serum, or try to cut it down? I've always been told use a 5p coin sized blob for short hair, a 50p coin for hip length hair and then vary if your hair is in between. Spread over your palms and fingers before running through only the ends and lengthens but not the roots or about 3 inches from the roots. Once a week use a clarifying shampoo and a light conditioner, follow the next day or next washing day with a deep or intensive conditioner.
  • Some of the suggestions are incredibly expensive and I don't know your budget. For a clarifying shampoo pantene do one and so do Tres semme. We use these once a fortnightish .

Don't waste your money, these store bought intensive conditions do nothing by coat each strand of hair in silicone to make them look shiny.

Use a natural oil - olive and coconut are generally good starting points - on the mid to end of the hair (ears down) leave in for an hour or so then wash out.
  • jedi..the serum I use is a no oil oil from Percy and Reed. It's not cheap but a little goes a long way.

Thanks for the recommendation hun I will give it a go.

I usually use the healthy sexy hair one, but I saw some today (can't remember the brand - but seemed more legit than the argan oil one they sometimes have in) in B &M Bargains today, wish I had picked it up as I'm sitting with a hair mask on my head as I type!

Edit: hair mask and carrier bag! :rotfl:

  • Well haven't bought a claryfing shampoo yet. Bit wary incase it strips the colour out.

However, I did buy a sachet of intensive conditioner from Primark and I have to say I'm quite impressed. It's the Macadamia oil one. After applying it, I sat for about half and hour with a shower cap on. When I rinsed it out and let it air dry my hair felt so much better. Would recommend this conditioner. Although I may try the other conditioners they sell in Primark. Think it was £1.50 a sachet and I will get about 2 gos of it.
