Is it worth using an intensive conditioner?

I have relatively normal condition hair. However, when I tie my hair in a ponytail, the lengths tend to stick together. I use a leave in conditioner and hair serum. My hair is coloured, however I do get it dyed professionally, so most of the time the hairdresser dyes the roots only.
Am wondering whether an intensive conditioner would help?

Go for it! Tying my hair up really damages it tbh.
Try the Aussie Colour Mate intensive conditioner once a week (can highly recommend the normal colour mate conditioner and shampoo for maintaining colour too, only ones I've used that help prolong the red in my hair)
The leave in conditioner along with the serum may be helping the hair stick together while in a pony?If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
I have really dry and damaged hair and find an intensive conditioner really helps make my hair feel smoother. I don't think any conditioner can ever repair hair however much it promises to- hair is dead once it grows above the scalp, it cannot be repaired but it can be "mended" by various silicones or oils sort of filling in the damaged parts which of course are washed out every time you shampoo and also time and things like heat, wind, rain/mist, air-con and so on will all take their toll on hair which will either cause damage or mess with the various products on your hair. Hence needing to do a mask regularly. Once a week is what is normally recommended but you know your hair best and know when you need a boost and when you don't.
Just make sure you pick something appropriate for your hair. Dry-damaged works for me because my hair is dry and damaged but if you have different issues look for what you feel would help.
I'm not sure though if your issues with your hair are to do with the hair itself or the product. It could be an oil issue (if your scalp is naturally oilier than others) and this then affecting your hair or if you could be either applying too much product or not being able to wash it all out each time you shampoo so you end up with a build-up of product. In that case you could try a clarifying shampoo on one day, then the next day try a deep conditioning mask.
Oh and recommendations for use? With the clarifying shampoo, leave in for up to 5 minutes to make sure it has a chance to break down the product residue in your hair before rinsing fully. With a deep conditioner, leave in as long as you can tolerate. If you ever go to a gym or sauna at a gym you could apply the mask and let it sit for a while. I find that 20 mins to an hour and I get really noticeable results. Less than 20 mins and it's just like I applied a bit more conditioner than normal, nothing that special and I can feel like I've wasted my money. It's a faff to do but it does pay off.0 -
My hair isn't particularly dry/damaged. When I get my hair dyed, it's generally only the roots that need doing. I may get a full head colour once every three months.
I need to use a leave in conditioner because if I don't I can't get a comb through my hair. The serum I use is very light weight and it suits my hair. I have very fine straight hair, but I do have a lot of it.
Also I very rarely use any heat on my hair. I let it dry naturally.
I will have a look at clarifying shampoos and a deep hair mask. any recommendations?0 -
Have you tried detangling spray instead of leave-in conditioner? I have very fine hair that's a !!!!!! to comb as well, and detangling sprays are a lot lighter - especially for fine-haired folk.Aqua 0/1850 Cap.One 0/450 Vanquis 0/500 HSBC 0/100

I don't use fancy conditioners or serums but I do slather my hair in organic Extra Virgin olive oil and let it soak in for a couple of hours every fortnight.
Also, if I have any coconut water hanging about (I drink Zico) I chuck that over my hair after shampooing and before rinsing.0 -
When my hair gets dry I massage coconut or argan oil into it, leave it overnight, then wash it out the next morning as an intense treatment. I know others who swear by almond or olive oil. You don't need a huge amount, and its cheaper in the long run than buying intensive conditioners.0

The leave in conditioner I use is pretty much a detangler.

The serum is this one:

I don't fancy using oils on my hair. Would prefer a regular intensive hair mask.0 -
Hi,
My hair is really long and I have tried numerous conditions, leave in masks, foil caps, plastic wraps, hair masques and the like!
I have found - that using any type of condition (but quite a good ammount) and leaving it on for more than 4 minutes to yield optimum results.
I particularly like Tigi oatmeal and aussie moisture, but honestly (through lots of trial and error) cheaper brands work just as well.
After washing your hair drench your hair in conditioner from just below the middle, and wrap up in a plastic bag (works MUCH better than aluminum caps, towel etc) leave on for as long as you can (minimum about 10 mins if you have time - great for when you take a bath)
Then wash off.
I have also tried using pure coconut oil (only a very tiny bit as can go quite greasy otherwise) which is cheap and can be bought from tesco.
p.s. rather than a serum i would reccommend using a 'daily hair oil' or a 'dry hair oil'
Healthy sexy hair and l'orreal both being quite good; two pumps and smooth through damp hair.
Good luck, hope you have lovely smooth hair soon!Re-starting comping and saving May 2016 :j:money:0 -
I would seriously recommend a clarifying shampoo .0

jedi..the serum I use is a no oil oil from Percy and Reed. It's not cheap but a little goes a long way.0
