Argos .... fume!

Here's my Vent of the Day!

Shopped around online for a good deal on a Nintendo Wii - my 13 year old has been saving for ages and her birthday money has arrived to top up her funds so she had enough to buy one.

Did a ring and reserve thingmy online with Argos.

Price on my computer screen for the Wii, Play and Remote, and two games - £244.96. Price on the instant payment machine in Argos when we typed in our reservation number £265 odd - queried this with a shop assistant who advised me to pay at one of the manned tills as the discrepancy could be dealt with there.

Price when processed through the manned till - £249.96!!!

Work that one out - £5 dearer than the price quoted online! I take on board the small print under the price online - that the price may vary due to offers no longer being valid etc ... however, within 45 mins of reserving online I was in the shop to collect the items!

However, the most bizarre thing about the whole thing was the Argos lady who wrote out the whole transaction on scraps of paper (3 times) to add up the items to make £249.96. I showed her what I'd put in my shopping basket online on the instore internet machine even. She was adamant that it added up to £249.96 and she was right ... using the figures she was being given from her in-store till - unfortunately I hadn't taken a print out from my online shopping basket to show her. So I said, several times ..... that's fine, I'm happy to pay the £249.96 - there is clearly a discrepancy, but I am happy to deal with that by writing to Head Office with a print out from the web site and a copy of my receipt. This seemed to anger the lady more and more - although I was polite and calm throughout the conversation - I literally had to ask her not to add the same numbers for the fourth time as I agreed with her that her sum added up!

I just couldn't believe that she could get so hot under the collar and angry with a customer who was accepting the higher price and stating over and over, with a credit card on the desk to pay with, that they agree with her.

Vent over!!!!!

Oh, and the Wii is great fun (good job the controllers have wrist straps though!!!!):D

You should write a letter to Mr Arg Osman. Chief field marshall and executive presedente of the retail arm of Argos.

You may receive a £10 gift voucher to spend on anything you like in Argos. Yippee !

Similar thing happened to me last week.I bought a small LCD TV from Argos. Reduced from £249.00 to £149.99. Tapped it in on the stock checker and came up as the reduced price.Went to the self serve machine thingy and tapped it in there.Came up the same....£149.99.Put my card in and paid. Then went to collect the TV, looked at my receipt and I had been charged £166.66?????
Took customer services ages to sort it out...they couldnt work it out either.Good job I checked though.
I would write a letter. Why should you pay more? Get writing!
