How to get refund from supplier when switching

Hello,
I've just applied to switch accounts but one of the suppliers I'm switching away from (British Gas) owes us £12. How do I get this amount, and at what stage in the switch? Do I have to call and ask, or will it be credited automatically? The account is in my flatmate's name so presumably she has to contact them?
Thanks for any help!

When I switched from British Gas, they didn't refund the credit until I sent them an email via my online account asking for it. They did it fairly swiftly once I sent the email. Get your flatmate to send them an email.0

Once you have received the final bill.
This will show what is owed. If there is no mention on the bill how and when such money is to be refunded, then that would be the time to contact them
Yes, they will only deal with the account holder (unless the account holder has given permission otherwise to the supplier). Any refund will probably only be made to the account holder.0
