Regarding 'best tariff', buried in your online account will be their disclosure of your cheapest available own tariff - look for it and check it - its not always made obvious to you. Best of luck.

Just a quickie Richie. We've only the one tariff for Economy 18 meters. This will be the one we've been billing leeruddecology's usage to. Full details aren't on our website although there is some information under the Tariff Information Label but this can only be seen by entering a valid address for the Eastern Electricity Distribution region (area 10). Tariff Information Labels are under 'Help and Support.'

    Hope this is of interest.

When we bought our house in 2008 it was fitted with the Eon Economy 18 system as we have all electric heating and water. (Heatrae Sadia Electomax)
In December 2011 following advice from MSE I shopped around and eventually found that OVO were familiar with this system and could offer a more competitive tariff.
All was well until the meter became faulty. After much discussion their latest solution is to say they can't replace the meter so I need to find a supplier who can!
I was wondering if the very helpful Eon contributor was online he might have any helpful advice.

    Morning manorak.

What's wrong with the meter? Has it stopped recording usage altogether? Under industry rules, it's the responsibility of the current supplier to look after the meter. If they're unable to offer a direct replacement, they need to be looking at suitable alternatives.

This is not to say you couldn't join us or another supplier. You could but, with a faulty meter, the billing would be wrong. Both our opening and your current suppliers closing bills would be based on estimates. Whoever took over the supply would sort out the meter but wouldn't be able to do anything before the move completed. Although switches usually take about two and half weeks to go through it would be quite a bit longer before the account would be fully active.

For us, things are changing as far as multi-rate meters are concerned. I've mentioned some of these changes above but thought I'd go over the more relevant points again so you've a better picture.

Economy 18 meters were designed mainly for all electric properties with particular types of heating arrangements like the system you mention. They give 18 hours of cheaper off peak electricity during every 24 hour period for heating/hot water purposes. To do this, the meter will be wired directly into the heating/hot water circuits at the property. A replacement needs to be able to continue to work with your present heating arrangements.

Although we've no immediate plans to replace Economy 18 meters, it's something we're looking at and this situation could change. Availability of these meters would depend on the circumstances at the time we receive an application. We're looking to gradually phase out many Restricted Hour Tariff meters like Economy 18 and are offering different alternatives. These are Economy 10, Economy 7 or single rate.

I'd say, Economy 10 is most similar to your current set up as they, too, are designed mainly for all electric properties with specific types of electrical heating and hot water arrangements. These meters give 10 hours of lower off peak electricity in three set periods at night, in the afternoon and during the evening. Here, all electricity used during these 10 hours is charged at the lower prices.

Like Economy 18, we've only the one tariff for Economy 10 meters. There are more options available with Economy 7 or single rate meters both with us and with the other suppliers. Economy 7 usually work okay with storage heaters but not sure about your system. Best to check this with a qualified electrician or heating engineer.

Sorry some of this is a bit vague manorak but hope it helps a little.

    Hi Malc,
Thank you so much for your prompt reply. Yes the meter has stopped working completely. I wonder if it is possible to contact you directly to discuss my current dilemma in more detail and if it is possible to switch back to Eon.
    Thanks
    Patrick

Afternoon Patrick. Ordinarily, I'd be happy to help but you need to talk to our Sales Team about switching. Helena and I aren't sales related at all and don't have the necessary access to help here. Contact details are on our website. Alternatively, if you drop an email to the address in my Profile, I'll be happy to give you their contact details or any other advice you might need.

Once the switch has been done, we've a specialist 'Stopped Meter' team who'll look after this. They'll ask you which registers have stopped recording and for the readings on the meter (all registers including those that have stopped). They'll also book an appointment for a technician to fix the problem and then sort out the billing.

    Thanks Patrick.

I really appreciate all your help. I've tried to find an email address on your Profile without luck. I clicked the 'Message' button but it says you do not accept private messages. Where have I gone wrong? I think it would be really helpful to have an intro from you to your sales team.
    Thanks,
    Patrick

You probably haven't changed your forum skin from the latest all singing, all dancing one* the MSE team imposed on everyone, back to the old green format that actually works.

    Change it via User CP.

    *according to the MSE team

    Morning Patrick.

I've received your email and replied a few moments ago. Don't worry, you haven't gone wrong. For understandable reasons, MSE don't allow Company Reps to use Private Messages or post contact details on the open Forums.
