Are halogen bulbs expensive to run

Does anyone know if the bulbs I have fitted (halogen saver G9 28W 220--240V) are compatible with a dimmer switch?
These are the bulbs that came with the light fitting. In the instructions it says:
230--240V If using an energy saving light bulb do not connect this product to a time or standard dimmer switch.
Is an energy saving bulb a low energy bulb?0 -
think it means if using a lower volt bulb such as a 12v your's clearly says it's a 240v so should be fine.0

Halogen bulbs are rubbish. Expensive to run and you have to keep replacing them. LED are best if you buy a decent brand.0

Halogen bulbs produce an exceptional quality of light that pretty much every LED on sale anywhere can't get near. If they weren't so inefficient they'd be the perfect lamp.
All LED's claim to be quality, the difference between an actually quality LED product and the rest is quite staggering.0
