Bringing a back to the UK
My friend has a car, bought in the UK, UK plates 02 reg. He took it to Switzerland in August, registered it with DVLA as exported. It hasn't been registered as imported in Switzerland as when he tried he wasn't able. It is currently on his drive with UK plates, no insurance and 6 months of MOT left.
He is giving it to me when I visit him later this month.
How do I get it home?
I have ordered the V55/5 he has given me the V5 and MOT certificate (I think) already and I've checked how much the insurance will be.
What else do I need to do/ think about?
Will I need to pay import duty/ tax other than road tax?
Thanks, any help greatly appreciated!

It's still MOTd? I'd start by trying to insure it and tax it, tbh. If it'll tax OK (don't forget to tell the tax website you're the new keeper), then job jobbed. If not, then you might have a smallish hoop to jump through with DVLA to tell them it's back in the country, but can't imagine it's very big.
Certainly no need for any duty or VAT.0 -
If its been declared as exported then wouldn't the plate! have been cancelled/removed by DVLA?0

Nope. A car that I know went to Ireland in 2007 still shows on https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/, as does one I know went to Belgium in 2008. DVLA just flag them as having been exported, in case they come back.
One of my old Golfs shows up there as exported.0 -
Loads of vehicles come back to the UK - The DVLA don't seem much concerned what they have been doing in the meantime.0

How do I know if it's exported? When I looked it just said untaxed I can't see exported anywhere.0

Export Marker : YES
Have a look at N138JUR, Citroen.0 -
My old Rover SD1 still shows in a search there, gearbox broken down and left at and formally exported to a Belgian dealer in 1991, but it doesn't actually say exported.0

Searched for a few of the cars I have owned (inc. current one) and not one shows up.Never Knowingly Understood.
