We were aware of weakened plaster as this had come up in the survey and happily went about getting a builder in to fix the problem - thinking a quick job, re-plaster the wall.
Did you approach the purchase of the property in the same manner as a whole. Heart ruling the head? Built in 1850's would be an instant red flag to me. Having myself having had a close shave with a property built in 1890's that fortunately we aborted on. .0 -
