Switching hitch

We have recently switched from Scottish Power to Extra Energy via the Cheap Energy Club. We gave final readings to EE and have received our final bills from SP with estimated readings which are vastly different to our actual readings. EE have told me that this is as a result of a dispute raised by a third party data verification agency. I didn't even know that these existed....has anyone else experienced this? EE have said that it can be easily sorted but with many people not checking bills, there must be a lot of people overpaying!

  • We had the same issue (for both gas and electricity, which were with diff. suppliers) when we moved into a new build and were switching suppliers about a month or so later. I provided the actual readings to the new supplier (EDF) but when I received estimated bills from the ones I was switching from, I asked EDF to send their own rep. to read the meter(s) and sort the issue out themselves with old suppliers.

Luckily we were on "payment on bill presentment" with the initial suppliers, so never paid them anything unless they sorted everything out and issued accurate bills. In the meantime, received a letter from debt collection agency which we ignored at the time.

A couple of calls and emails to EDF later, made sure EDF sorted it out for us. Took a couple of weeks but it was all sorted.
  • Hopefully it will get sorted for us easily too, thanks!
