I thought wine and beer were included and only spirits were excluded? If they are excluding wine now they've really gone too far!0 -

I find this whole no points on spirits very annoying as the amount of expensive spirits I'm buying for family and friends this year is quite substantial.
When I called customer service about it they said that whole government excuse to me, I asked them why is tescos still giving points then, she then went on to say well they shouldn't be because it would be against the law (what law , sainsbury's? ).
I tell you, some of these customer service people are so full of it.
You can still receive brand match vouchers though. Just a few days ago I bought some glenfidditch aged whisky for my uncles birthday costing me £35 plus some other groceries and received a £9.00 brand match voucher back and it certainly didn't come from the different types of veg I bought.
Silver lining I guess.
You could also be cheeky and just buy wine for the same price collect your nectar points and exchange it at customer services for spirits.
Bit long thoughI may not be the brightest star in the sky but I still shine. Please be gentle0 -
Sainsburys have decided that because there is potential for inadvertent breaking of the law they will stay well within it.
They have also stopped staff discounts on these products and although you can get a brand match voucher you can' then use that voucher to buy another one of the products as it cannot be used against strong spirits and liqueurs.
It is like the challenge 25 it is over what is required but means there is less likelihood they will break the rules without meaning to.
Tesco have never been concerned about being caught breaking the rules. Sainsburys will have it that they are different by values and they would class this as that.
It is the law as if there was no law they would be doing nothing about it.
They also stopped the buy 6 save 5% offer on wine for the same reason.I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -

Well, guess I'll be buying spirits from tescos and collecting points until they get caught then, since there so blatant about it.
I did forget to mention you couldn't use the the brand match vouchers you get from liqueur to buy more liquor. I found that out the hard way when waiting in the queue for ages with a bottle of absolut vodka in my hand, then be told "the computer says no......'. So thanks for adding that.
One thing both supermarkets seem to be on the same over zealous page on is that think 25. Without fail I get asked everytime for ID even by the same assistant who checked my id the day before. It's good to be cautious though, but I don't no many under 18s who spend £34.50 on 12 yo malt whisky and £11 on 1 bottle of Marlborough sauvignon blanc. Lol ☺
(Yes yes I know it's think 25, I'm just trying to lighten the mood and have a joke)I may not be the brightest star in the sky but I still shine. Please be gentle0 -

Personally I never make spending choices based on points I always make them based on cost and full cost at that.
Full Cost?
Costs me 15p a mile to drive my car is the difference worth me spending that money? Add up all the costs and then make a decision as to what is best.
BTW don't forget Sainsburys no longer brand match Tesco so all the more reason to go to Tesco if it is cheaper there than the relative cost elsewhere, but surly the lack of a few points is not worth it on its own?I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.0 -
Sainsburys have decided that because there is potential for inadvertent breaking of the law they will stay well within it.......
That argument is utter b0ll0x.
Firstly, because Home Office guidance makes it clear that reward scheme points are not counted towards the minimum price for alcohol.
Secondly, even if it did, it would equally well apply to beer and wine as well....Sainsburys will have it that they are different by values and they would class this as that....
The only value exemplified by Sainsbury's in this case is that of telling downright lies.:)...They also stopped the buy 6 save 5% offer on wine for the same reason.
But recently had a buy 6 save 25% offer on wine. So clearly that cannot have been the reason.0 -

That's nice.
As i also do go where it cheapest, but if I get additional points that's a bonus .
And I know they only price match asda now . But asda is too far and I know I will end up spending any brand match/price promise voucher on something I need in that particular store.
I also do my shopping in twos , the first one on expensive items i know i will receive a money of voucher for and the second one on items that are cheaper in whichever supermarket I'm shopping in and then use the money off coupon on it.
So i DO get the cheapest price without driving out of my way to another supermarket.
(And yes I know it's long doing it that way and yes I know most people probably won't check the price online before they do there shopping. But I do and that's what works for me. THANKS)I may not be the brightest star in the sky but I still shine. Please be gentle0 -
Please complain to Sainsburys and get the 1000 nectar points, like I did, to placate me somewhat. I was merely baffled why spirits/liqueurs were excluded as if I imbibe in a form of alcohol which is nt really approved of. In my case I was advised, by my doctor, as a recent diabetic, to switch to spirits as they spike the blood sugar level less than beers/wines (if used with diet mixers. ) I m still baffled why Sainsburys pick on Spirits and can `t drag an answer out of them which makes sense. Best I could get was "in the interests of consistancy "0

Lets be honest, your doctor wasn't advising you to drink at all. The advice was that if you can't resist, go for a drink with a lower carbohydrate load as diabetic neuropathy beckons. So do yourself a favour and stop drinking full stop, your bank balance will certainly be better off.
I too was a bit caught by the minimum spend for points voucher - but I was happy with my purchase price for the Drambuie and port I bought so the points would have been no more than a bonus.Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
