buying - estate agent wants bank statements etc

Hi all
I have an acceptance in principal and proof of deposit. I am also happy with the deal I have with my mortgage broker.
Today I put an offer in on the property. The estate agent now wants me to go in tomorrow for "about an hour" for an "offer check". This is apparently comfort for the buyer due to people not being able to get the mortgage.
So they want me to take everything in which includes 3 months bank statements, p60 proof of addresses etc etc which I have already gone through with my broker. I've told them I'm not looking for a mortgage but they insist they still have to do this.
Is this right? I thought my AIP and proof of deposit should be enough? It's not really any of their business to look at bank statements etc right?
I'm a first time buyer so I'm slightly nervous, I don't want to go through all these deals etc and hard sell when I'm already happy with the deal I have with the broker.
Any comments would be appreciated, thanks :-)

It says the offer check process is to enable us to qualify your position having now made an offer on one of our properties. Our advisor will review your ability to proceed and this will enable us to confirm your offer to the vendor. Then goes on to say during the appointment the advisor will be happy to review your mortgage arrangements etc

Yuck. That sounds like a sales pitch to me. Hopefully others will be along shortly with real advice but no way would I want to show that stuff to the estate agent, and no way would I tolerate a mortgage sales pitch.

Perhaps you could show the information to your solicitor, and the solicitor could confirm to the agents that the information is in place?

When I bought my house, I was asked if I would like an appointment with their in-house mortgage advisor. I said no and that was the end of it.
You're spelling is effecting me so much. Im trying not to be phased by it but your all making me loose my mind on mass!! My head is loosing it's hair. I'm going to take myself off the electoral role like I should of done ages ago and move to the Caribean. I already brought my plane ticket, all be it a refundable 1.

I thought this this too, they have been pushing me to see their advisor and several times I've said no. If they can't put the offer forward without all my info except Id, oip and proof of deposit then I think I will just withdraw the offer!

You're an FTB so they see you as an easy target (dead keen, swooning over the property, planning changes already etc) to make a little commission selling a mortgage, then life insurance and finally you want house + contents insurance too don't you. Well yes but not at their prices.

What you want to portray is the grumpy old property developer look.

If it's any consolation they tried the same thing with us recently. Eventually their MA rang me because I refused to ring them. She said I couldn't port my mortgage. I put her politely but firmly back in her box and that was the end of it and we ported our mortgage.

Tell them no as you have your own mortgage adviser, but suggest they ring him if they want, which they won't.

Thanks, I was worried about going in without it all but I guess what's the worst that could happen! They don't get a sale..

Is it one of these estate agents:

This is definitely a sales pitch it could get quite awkward but you have to steel yourself beforehand to say no. When you get there just make it clear you don't want them to look for a mortgage for you. The last one I saw did accept that I didn't want a mortgage through them, but that might be because my deal was better than any he could come up with.
They will give you all the leaflets etc about their conveyencing services and will offer to look into insurance etc.
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.

I would put money on their broker not taking an hour once you show them bank statements/payslips and an agreement in principle making it clear you will be sticking with your current broker (who is your cousin/uncle or some relative... just lie)

Before you show any of this just ensure your offer has been accepted.

Go to the house and ask the owner if they have heard from the estate agent yet regarding your offer

Is it normal for them to ask for it all? I didn't really want to give them all my bank statements etc just my offer in principal and deposit proof, everything else is already provided to my broker. Good idea about the relative!

It sounds like they haven't put it forward till this is confirmed :-/ I will find out tomorrow. They said the seller has had 3 people put offers in which haven't been able to get the mortgage...
