Hi,
Sorry for the question but I have read om MSE somewhere I am sure that some Natwest debit cards do not work on trains, and I dont want to look silly if mines is one of them !.
Is there a way of finding out before I try to use it on the train ?, I was going to phone up and ask but I don't want to look stupid !.
Thanks

If it's contactless you'll be fine. Otherwise, possibly not.

If your card starts with the following it will not work on a train:
* 4751 27
* 4751 28
* 4757 55
* 4757 54
Unless the trains card terminal can phone home to check you have funds available.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -

It will work on a train in that case as 4751 29 are full authority debit cardsIm an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -

The key point is not whether it's contactless or not, but whether its an 'online' or 'offline' card - i.e. whether it always needs to obtain online authorisation from your bank before the purchase is made or not.
Most train companies won't be able to process the online cards on the train itself - you will need to have an 'offline' one. If you have an ordinary rather than a basic bank account with Nat west you should be fine, but I'd always suggest taking an alternative form of payment with you if possible, jsut ion case.0 -

Your wrong you can still have an ordinary natwest bank account and be given the blue online debit card, which has to dial home to check for available funds.
A friend of mine has a Natwest ordinary select account with a £500 overdraft and only has the blue online debit card.
I've told them to switch it to Halifax or First Direct to get the £100 switching offer, most of these banks cards are offline ones. If he can be trusted with an overdraft I don't see why he cant have the purple offline card.Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both. :cool:0 -

Your friend will be able to get a full authority debit card now if they ask for one.
They can make the request by calling telephone banking and requesting a contactless debit card.
Only basic account customers and credit restricted select silver account holders will be the only ones that will get a blue card now.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
