Options
hello!

I need to find all the stations perimetrically of London from where you can be within 30 minutes in london by train or any other public transport

I am researching areas out of London to buy home and I need to know all the train stations or other public transport stations that are maximum 30 minutes far from London (or 45 minutes)

how can I gather that information?

thanks!

london is a big area. You need to narrow it down to a more defined central point
  • Peterborough is about 45 minutes from Kings Cross on East Coast Trains. Brighton about 50 minutes from Victoria. Woking 24 minutes from Waterloo.

Just a few from using National Rail Enquires.

Or on a bad day 30 minutes may get you about 1/2 mile.

Thirty minutes on the Central Line will get you from Newbury Park into the City of London.

Forty five minutes on the Central Line will get you from Newbury Park to Notting Hill Gate.
  • This is a useful site

When we were looking for somewhere to live within commuting distance of London we found another useful website (which I can't now find, sorry) that someone had made to help employees of some government department choose where to live; it showed commuting time (from victoria I think, and even included walking distances to the suburban station!) and overlaid a 'temperature' map of house prices. Even by 2009 it was a bit out of date, and we needed to get to Waterloo, but it helped us identify a few areas to look at and we ended up buying in one of them. We bought in Hersham which is on the (slow) trainline to woking and out of the Zones. It's still a good buy but obviously house prices have risen a lot since we bought. Best thing about living there was that there were quite a lot of houses within a 10 min walk from the station. We've recently moved to Woking. The train is similar (longer distance, but faster and much more frequent trains) but we now live 25 mins walk from the station (boo for my husband, I don't work in London any more).

That will be hundreds of stations, in fact it may well be a 4-figure number, depending on how you define it.

  • It would also depend on WHERE in London you would be working. No point moving south if working west or similar.

But can you park there for free? :rotfl:
