Satellite signal wireless?

There are issues with a satellite splitter in that it doesnt work the same way as you would expect with a TV coax splitter.
1 sat device acts as a master and drives the voltage to the dish and the other device (slave) can only display channels which share the same band and polarity that the 1st box is tuned into. When the channel is changed on the master box to an incompatible channel to the slave box, the slave box will show "no signal". Its not as restrictive as only being able to watch the same channel, as a rough estimate the slave box will be able to show 25% of the channels (those determined by the polarity/band that the master is tuned in to).
The reason neither sat box worked when you set it up must have been that you would have had both boxes set to power the LNB which causes them to clash (default settings for sat box). If you had set one of them not to power LNB then you would have had "limited" success with the splitter as described in the above paragraph. Either that or it was a reduction in signal strength due to the split.
For the average consumer the whole concept of satellite splitters is just a scam and you need a whole new wire coming down from the dish.
EDIT: For multiple TV's around the house definitely go with QUAD LNB and wired cables and avoid the video sender!0
