cancelled service - overdue payment

Hello,

I have cancelled my broadband subscription last month as required by T&C (with proper notice) so I have no longer active home broadband internet (as of end of October). Few days after I have submitted my notice a new (automated?) bill was produced for November - (advanced payment the future month ) and send to me in the middle of October with due day beginning of November. Today, I have received text message about overdue payment. I called CS of the provider and I was told that the system will credit the bill as I have no longer subscription.

But now I got a question about my credit score. Could you please tell me if this is going to lower my credit score? I shouldn't got this bill in the first place. Is overdue automatically triggering downgrade of the credit score the very next day of 'missed' payment? Or the broadband provider has to submit such a information to the credit score agencies?

Thank you for your help.

Since they have miss-billed you it's possible they will miss-report your account status to the credit reference agencies. You should keep an eye on your reports and get them to correct any mistakes

Credit scores don't mean anything, lenders only worry about the data, salary etc, don't worry about made up numbers from the CRAs

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

  • Not many broadband providers report to CRA's. If they've already admitted their mistake, I wouldn't worry about it. I'd just make sure to check your files before you make any credit applications.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.
