Buying a Kindle with Books On...

I have seen a number of Kindles on ebay with thousands of books on for about £50.

I think this seems a great idea but I would like to know if anything could possibly go wrong with that apart from the Kindle itself dying !

Any ideas / comments would be gratefully received.

Richard

    I've been Money Tipped!
I'm only guessing but I suspect the pre loaded books are those that are already freely available eg http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Free_Kindle_Books

Amazon also have free books to download, although the selection varies.

I doubt you would get much in the way of a warranty on ebay kindle. Might be worth considering a new one from Amazon. Having said that I've got a basic keyboard model which I bought 4 years ago and not had any problems. Initially I downloaded loads of free books, but I've become a bit more discerning as I've ended up with loads of books I'll never have the time, nor the inclination to read.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

They do not say what books are on them but I thought that £50 of books seems pretty good but as you say they may well be freebies anyway, in which case...........

The books could also be dodgy copies which shouldn't be loaded on a device for sale.

What sort of warranty are they offering?
I ask as you can get a kindle new for about £60ish with full warranty, and then load it up with free books from Amazon, guttenberg press etc (using the rather handy calibre program if needed).

might just be me, but i would have thought that as a kindle is linked to one amazon account, and so are all the books, that it would mean you would either not be able to buy any more books - as the kindle is still linked to the sellers account, and therefore their bank aco!!!!, or you would have to add your card details to the sellers amazon account therefore giving them access to your money!
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)

There is a very good chance that the books are pirate copies and not worth the money you are paying, its easy to find dodgy download copies if you want them so buy a new Kindle and load them yourself if thats what you want.
  • You can re-register your Kindle to your own Amazon account - one you buy from anywhere else than Amazon should surely come unregistered (which is one good reason to buy it from Amazon to save you the hassle of registering it as they supply them already registered). As well as books from Amazon (free or otherwise) you can find loads of copyright free ones on the likes of gutenburg - but yes, there are plenty of pirated ones around in other places.

Brand new Kindles are £59 on Amazon with access to thousands of free books, and a guarantee, why buy a second hand one for £50 from Fleabay?
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I bought a used, touch-screen Kindle. When it arrived I discovered the the previous owner had not deleted her (paid for) eBooks. I was able read* them and register my account and buy additional eBooks without a problem.

*Frankly, they weren't my genre so I didn't read them but it was certainly possible.

The books might not even be worth the £50.
