Damaged at garage service/MOT
                    Hi all,
I need some advise. Took my car in for service/MOT which had been pre arranged. All was well when I enquired by phone. The garage called back moments later to say my car had been damaged, know one hurt T.G. It seems that while on the lift and with power on (Hibrid) it was silent no petrol engine running, the selector must have been moved into reverse and accelerator pressed causing the car to move back rapidly and slewed off the lift and striking the steel lift supports on drivers side.
The garage which I have used many times have admitted the damage is down to them and will replace door /colour match etc and make good all work, the impact seems to be at the drivers door hinge/wing. They have lent me a car until the work is completed.
My question is do I have to inform my insurance company of this incident. I did not witness the accident. I have had no claims. I have always had very good service from this garage. Please advise me.

No need to inform your insurance company.0

<goes to check exact wording the Meerkats ask>
"Have you had any motor accidents, claims or losses in the past 5 years, no matter who was at fault or if a claim was made?"
You haven't. So the answer - utterly truthfully - is no.0 -
Often insurers are using the word 'incident' instead of 'accident'. Whether this would fall under the terms of the policy, probably.
But I see no reason what so ever to notify them if the garage are putting it right.0 -
As Adrian says ... the OP has not had any such incident or accident. His vehicle has, but the OP was not involved in any way so can truthfully answer No. (IMHO)0

Further to my post of the 05/11/2014.
My car was returned to me 21/11/2014,it seemed OK but it was raining that afternoon. the replaced door seemed tight at closure point and a rubber door buffer was missing together with the o/s wiper arm cover which must have come off on impact, also a dent was visible at the door hinge edge on the front wing panel. The garage said they had not noticed it and would get replacements, not to date. The paint match was not perfect. This is the way my car was returned.
The car was due for service and I booked it in at my Toyota agents who commented that the work was not of the standard that they would have approved. In fact the workmanship may have an impact on the resale price.
Do I at this stage still have any claim against the garage. At the time of the incident they did not want any insurance involvement but they did accept that the damage was there responsibility.
As a bit of an insult, I thought, I had to pay for the MOT at £51.00.
Please I need any advice.0 -
How old is the car? Young enough to still be covered by the paintwork/rust protection of the manufacturer?
If it is and the dealer said the repair was substandard then get a price from the dealer and see where they go from there.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
It's good they owned up, we've had a lot of stories on here with garages damaging cars and then denying it. Crazy considering they pay insurance to cover such incidents, insurance which unlike motor insurance does not go up massively if they make a claim.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

Their insurance may have a huge excess. So just as cost effective as getting it sorted themselves.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

issue is now, you have accepted the repaired car when you drove it away. That was the time to inspect it to see if you are happy with the work, not after....GC Jan £431.490/£480.00  £48.51 under budget!0
