You can sometimes get good deals on slightly older versions of stuff like Photoshop. Lightroom is fairly new however so it might not be the same case for it. Obviously it depends on what features your dad requires but for most work it doesn't matter too much (I'm still using Photoshop 7 which I got on eBay a few years ago for less than half the price of CS1 at the time).

do you have a student or teacher in your house?
if so you might be able to buy the student license (much cheaper)
  • I found it cheaper on a site called BestPricedBrands, but after a google check there seems to be a lot of issues with them - not definitive if they are dodgy, but they are based in the states (not very obvious on the site) and plenty of forums have bad things to say about them!

Please note, I have no personal experience with them, but just a word of warning to do your research and make your own mind up.

Actually just bought a copy of CS3 which arrive this morning... Paid £523 on Amazon so I am deliberately not looking at if I could have got it cheaper now!!:rotfl:. By the way - I used their free but slow postage - ordered at 16.45 on the 23rd and it arrived in 08.00 this morning (25th). Saved me £3 or £7 for 'faster' postage!

I would buy Cs2 instead, I work in a Graphic design and I use CS3 and have'nt used any of the new features as of yet.
