  • I had a similar problem when I needed to fit a new kitchen. OH was in India, not able to pop home to help the little woman make decisions. To be fair - there were an equal number of suppliers who were perfectly happy for me to go solo.

I invited the others to come back in the 21st century.

Yes, a good way to eliminate the hard-sell scum is to tell them your partner won't be in - even if they will in fact be in, and even if you don't have a partner!

Those who are genuinely interested in just coming round to measure up and give you a quote won't be put off, those who want to give you the hard sell will be.
  • We had the same carp from Anglian Windows...wouldn't come round unless wife was in. Said not possible as we work opposite shifts, Head Office said it wasn't policy...er yeah right.
Used local firm on all our and family properties and great service, no problems at all.

We found a great local supplier on Checkatrade, who did one window and two doors, plus a couple of other little jobs. I have heard nothing but horror stories from the major door-knocking companies.
    Been away for a while.
