Applied for N&P Account - Want to Withdraw Application - How?

I've applied for a new current account with N&P about a week ago. I received an automatic email from them where it mentioned:
Based on the information you have provided, there are some parts of your application that we need to review before we can confirm your application has been successful. This will usually take two working days.
Well, it has been more than 2 business days and I've noticed I haven't heard back from them. When I called them the representative told me the only information she can see at the screen is "Your information was transferred to another department".
I felt it's quite weird I haven't heard back from them, not by post, not by phone, not by email (all my details are correct), so I read some reviews about the bank and I've read lots of stories of people who had issues with their debit card, online banking and so forth - so I decided this bank is not for me neither.
=========
I have my application reference #, I've called N&P and told them I would like my application to be withdrawn, so the representative I've just spoken with told me "I would put a note in your account notifying you're asking not to proceed", but I'm not sure that is good enough.
My question is who should I speak with, or who should I contact in order to ensure by 100% that this account will not be opened and that I won't have to deal with them later on having to close the account? What are the best proper channels to make it happen as swift and as proper as possible?
Thanks for your help!

Oh good .... just received 2 calls from "Unknown" number both to my landline and mobile, when I picked up it got disconnected ... then after around 15 minutes I received this email from them which includes this text:
Thank you for your N&P Gold Classic Current Account application, reference number XXXXXX...
Based on the information you have provided, unfortunately on this occasion we cannot take your application any further....
Unfortunately your application has been declined.
Okay, good news for me!

Having had a gold current account with them they're not bad at all, far better than most high street banks:
Good points:
*Free overseas cash withdrawals using their Visa debit card
*Top class customer service on a par with First Direct
*Free Sentinel Gold card protection/lost keys insurance
Not so good points:
*No branches outside East Anglia area so you're stuck if you live elsewhere & want to deposit cash notes (main reason i left them)
*Faster payments only get sent during working hours Mon-Fri
* They don't accept incoming CHAPS payments directly - has to be done via Barclays0 -

Yes, that's what I initially thought but you need to understand the card doesn't work all the times (according to many reviews), and if you don't pay in 500 GBP every month, they will charge you 5 GBP... they seem to have no option to contact the relevant people when you need them, and some people complained they never received the PIN for the card neither....
It was enough for me to say no based on that.0
