Static Caravan Insurance

There've been various threads in the past on here about static 'van insurance. Hopefully, the following may be of help.

We've now spent a considerable amount of time trawling through / filling in Internet forms for a static caravan insurance quote -- and it's been a total and complete spherical-object-acher.

At least half, if not more, of the insurers in this sector want you to ring them and discuss "your needs" with "friendly telephone staff". Gawd, WHY?

At least half, if not more, Google search results lead to referral sites as illiterate as they are mis-engineered (or out of date: we lost track of the number which directed us to Endsleigh, despite the fact Endsleigh has lost its usual static caravan insurer and is trying to find another one, so can't offer that kind of insurance anyway.)

Still more took us to broker sites -- yeah, right: a £180 online quote from, typically, B. Portwood Insurance Brokers for Towergate static caravan insurance provided exactly the same level of cover as the £161 quote from Towergate online direct. So what's with the £19 premium load? (Nah, you know the answer to that.)

Finally, finally, finally. . .

We came across just TWO sites which, to us, seemed worth dealing with:

1. Equine & Livestock Insurance Co Ltd.

We'd wholeheartedly give E&L our "Consumer Champion Award" because E&L does NOT ask you for your life story; does NOT ask you to fill in pages of online details; does NOT say it'll send the quote in the post; does NOT say it'll ring you / email the quote; does NOT say you should ring its helpful, friendly, telephone advisers; and does NOT say you have to register / open an account before they'll bother to talk to you. . .

Instead, it simply prints all its rates on a single, instantly accessible web page:

www.eandl.co.uk/rates/cz

As an object lesson in how to sell insurance, E&L's must surely be in a class of its own.

And (in our experience) its rates beat everything from Towergate to Caravanwise (major static insurers) hands down: from £50 a year per £1,000 value insured, including new for old up to five years, freezer food loss and public liability.

AND E&L offers to match any like-for-like quote from anywhere else.

Our only other recommendation?

2. Onequote direct

Simple. Fast. Easy:

www.onequotedirect.co.uk

Not everyone is in the market for static 'van insurance -- especially, those poor sods who've stupidly bought into sites where they can only purchase their insurance (of £300, and more, for even a cheap 'van) from the site owners -- but those who are (especially, newbies like us) might like some insurance short-cuts such as this.

After all the time we've spent hunting for 'van insurance for our newly acquired static, we'd certainly have been grateful to find a way of saving time, effort and frustration posted here on MSE.

* And no: we have absolutely NO connection with the websites mentioned above. This post is based on research, not affiliation / bribery / the Managing Director's my wife's second cousin etc etc etc etc. . .

  • Full address where the caravan to be insured is kept
This cannot be the same as your permanent home address and must be in the UK

    i disagree.
i am with caravanwise this year after my towergate renewl came in a full 50% higher than last year !!!

i have NEW for OLD, on a static thats 7 years old, worth £22k for £25 a month.
thats comparable with the eandl quote, but they are not new for old cover for vans over 5 years, and so i would lose out.

This was something i was very very careful to check and is worth a considerable amount.

the trick that did it for me, was the towergate bakers insurance i had prior was full new for old regardless of age. In order to get my business, caravanwise matched the cover type.
