Any video editing experts?

I'm a bit of a video n00b, and I have a several videos I need to upload to YouTube but I've hit problems with two of them. I'm a PC user, and the only video editing software I'm familiar with is Movie Maker.

One video is in AVI format, and is in 4 separate files that I need to join together. It plays fine in VLC Media Player, but if I open it in Movie Maker (or Windows Media Player), there is no sound. As far as I know, there isn't a way to join the files in VLC Player. Is there a way to convert the files to wmv format so they'll play with audio in Movie Maker? Or is there another free video editor that will let me join them together, with audio?

The second video is in 3 parts and I can play 2 bits of it okay in Movie Maker, but the second part won't play and Movie Maker tells me there is a corrupted file. I've tried the right click and "fix" option and that doesn't do anything. Is there any way I can salvage the file?

Please explain everything is the simplest possible terms. Thank you!

You can also Google for "video converter +free" (no quotes) to get a load more.

There are several programs that can do this with differing degrees of success.

One option is to download Virtualdub and use that, it's free.

Thanks both. I've now figured out the first part and got my AVI files sorted in Movie Maker.

Now just the supposedly corrupted files to fix. :think:
