Need to downshift foundation, any recommendations?

I currently use estee lauder double wear, and before that I used clinique stay true.
I'm looking for a liquid foundation with decent coverage that doesn't change colour as the day goes on. It would need to be an oil free formula.
I no longer work and can't justify the cost of the estee lauder at £30ish :-(
My skin isn't great, adult acne and scarring so foundation isn't something I feel comfortable going without.
Can anyone recommend a cheaper foundation? Would prefer liquid as I know where I am with that, I don't have huge faith in the mineral powders for coverage or durability, but happy to be corrected on this!

I really rate Rimmel foundations as my 'drugstore' brand, normally I wear MAC. The 24 hour one is heavier coverage. (although why you'd want to wear make up for 24 hours is beyond me
) not sure about it being oil free though. 0 -

Hi shell_girl,
I'll be following this thread with interest as I am exactly the same - currently use EL DW, can't justify the cost, but want to stick with liquid oil free due to bad skin!
I do sometimes use Boots 17 BB cream which is ok, but as the colour options are light or medium they don't blend well for me.
Like GBNI, I've heard good things about Rimmel, also heard Max Factor are good, though they're a little more expensive I think.0 -
Thanks for the replies. I'll have a look at the Rimmel one when I hit boots later! I've also been googling and have been seeing references to Revlon colourstay and no7 matte, has anyone tried either of these?
I always thought foundation was a get what you pay for thing, so have been shelling out for years. Bit nervous about dropping my habit but it has to be done :-(Don't suffer alone - if you are experiencing Domestic Abuse contact the National Domestic Abuse Helplines

Revlon Colorstay is amazing. I have fairly oily skin and it keeps the shine at bay all day long yet it feels like I'm not wearing make up. Good coverage too. Big range of shades as well so you should be able to get the right shade for your skin.
I've not tried the No7 one.0 -
Another vote for Revlon colorstay - great coverage and lasts on my skin.
I bought my last lot for about £6 from a make up stall in the local shopping centre.0 -
I like Max Factor Facefinity
New to this money saving lark. Any tips greatly received.

I've been using revlon and been pleased. What's disappointing is that the same shade in the normal is different in colour from that for oily skin leaving me in a quandary when my skin changes.
Glad someone mentioned max factor, I used to use that and might have a try next time.
I absolutely hate changing foundations and trying to find the correct shade, I can be in there for hours trying to decide what's right.0 -
I have the very same skin as you, plus it's very sensitive so I've gone through a tonne of foundation (and rejected most of it, inc ELDW!).
Another vote for Revlon Colourstay from me, but I buy the 'whipped' one which is only available online (Amazon or the Bay). About £9 for a pot and you can colour match with the usual range.
Incredible coverage, natural looking, lasts all day, I blot with powder about 3pm but have incredibly oily skin.
Most importantly, I 'stipple' it on and very gently buff (Real Techniques stippling brush). There are lots of online tutorials about this (and reviews of the product).
When it runs out I want to try the regular one for oily skin, but in general I don't get on with these, hence rejecting DW, as they look too flat and cling to my dry patches, The Whipped one is amazing, even compared to a lot of high end stuff I've tried!Proud to be a moneysaver

I've not tried the No7 one.
Another vote for Revlon Colourstay - they have an oily/combo and dry/sensitive version.
I also used to use EL DW.

Thank you all so much. I went for the Revlon in the end, looking forward to trying it tomorrow morning but nervous too! Ridiculous isn't it but I feel so vulnerable about how my skin looks.
I hope I've got the shade right, now that I've come home and compared it it's a bit lighter than my eldw, but I had my two year old hurrying me :rotfl:
Thanks again, I'll report back for anyone interested :-)Don't suffer alone - if you are experiencing Domestic Abuse contact the National Domestic Abuse Helplines
