On line conveyancing

I tried an on line method to sell my flat. After two months there was no response from the buyer's solicitor. The conveyancing firm claimed they had never received my documents. I called a month later and was told they had shredded everything as they had deemed it to be a "no sale" as they had heard nothing from the buyer's solicitor who claim to have heard nothing from them. I have lost the buyer and lost the place I was in the process of buying. Do I have any legal rights to compensation?

You may have cause for complaint against your own conveyancer if they provided poor service. When you first instructed them you should have had client care and terms of business provided, and these should include details of the complaints procedure.
You would need to check their website to find out whether they are solicitors or just conveyancers and who their regulator is.
Where were your agents in all this? Did you chase at all or was the call after 2 months and another after a further month the only contact you had with them?All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -
As TBagpuss says, why wasn't your EA chasing this?
Or did you sell privately, or perhaps through an EA with an upfront fee, and no further fee on completion?
EAs who charge their fee on completion typically contact (or hassle) buyers and sellers every few days to keep things moving. It's hard to know, but an active EA might have held the deal together.
In the absence of an active EA, I guess you would need to be prepared to contact/hassle your buyer every few days, as well as keeping in touch with the conveyancer.

Just noticed that you were buying as well. Wasn't your seller's EA chasing you and asking how your sale was progressing?0 -
I called repeatedly. Every time was told "i don't know I'll call you back" but no call back was ever made. It was almost impassible to reach them in the first place. Now I know, you have to call every day.0
