Hire vehicle damaged before I collected but didnt have chance to inspect

Hello,

As i mentioned above. I collected a van from the hire company at about 8:00 am. Upon collection the van was parked very close to a hedge on the nearside, outside the compound of the hire company and on the other side of the road. When myself and the hire company reached the vehicle all of the paperwork was signed. I should have asked them to move the van so i could see the other side but I didn't. When i got the van home (5 minutes away) I noticed a large scuff down the side of the van on the nearside. I did not cause that damage. However i was on a very short time schedule and had no signal on my mobile and the house phone had been disconnected as I was moving house. I noted on the form where the damage was and what time I spotted it. The van was then collected the next day by the hire company who have issued me with a change of condition form. Has any had a similar situation like this? I realize i made several mistakes mainly not asking them to move the vehicle because i was rushing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
